I like everything about this car except the transmission. I'm a sports car enthusiast, I need the clutch and a six-speed manual gearbox. To me, I don't care what they hype up the transmission name to be, it's still an automatic....a "manual-clutchless" transmission. So, if I had to choose, I would definitely pick an R34 over this, purely because of the tranny, which to me, adds a great deal to the driving experience. Now, if they offer a six-speed manual gearbox, then God-willing, I would definitely buy this car! :)

my all time favorite skyline would have to be the z-tuned r34. though this will be the first skyline sold in the states (officially), i give nissan some respect now. i still wouldn't mind having one of these bad boys for less of a price than a r34...

It's proven in F1 that double clutch systems (DSG) is faster and stronger then the current manuals. Factor in reaction time and driver consistancy, you know you'll get a consistant launch every time. Which makes sense that the journalist reviewed the Porche in favor of being a 'drivers' car... I can't wait to see this sucker on Top Gear with the stig review :eyetwitch ... we know he doesn't wear glasses.... |
5th gear?!
|
It's got 2 clutches..... So maybe when Fast & the Furious 4 comes out, Van Deisel can use his 'non-double clutching' quote again. The GTR is still drift-able, you just won't be able to clutch kick or drop it I can't wait to see this sucker on Top Gear with the stig review ... we know he doesn't wear glasses.... |
dude, this car is scary fast. Clutch pedal and 6 speed stick be darned, this car is QUICK. Now all that's needed is an aftermarket front bumper. Preferably the proto version.

GT-R vs M3 vs GT3

I was a little disappointed by the 5th gear coverage. Why did they do their shootout with the annoying girl driving econoboxes that nobody cares about when they could have had jason and tiff chasing each other around the track with say, GTR vs 911 GT3.... or the new Viper ACR. Hell, they could have even put it up against the old skyline that they were giving away. How cool would that have been.
I really hope Top Gear gives the car a proper show. It seems like the fifth gear folks were happy to just do some boring drifts and call it a day. |

Yeah the front end lacks... the headlight design of the r34/33... I'm sure a front bumper fascia will fix it. Atleast it's been wind tunneled to take the other supercars o the house at 180mph.... :)
|
5th gear has some pretty good battles since they have 2 good drivers...but this review was very blah...
I agree with errbody else...get jason and tiff to have a shoot out 911 turbo.... twin turbo 3.6L 480hp awd GTR....twin turbo 3.8L 480hp awd they were meant to be compared |
Kinda makes me want to sell the R34, I guess I will have to wait a few years and buy one when I move back to the states since I can't take the R34

It's amazing... they throw the kitchen sink at this thing, over and over, and nothing is really beating it. I'm a believer. Helluva car they got there.

It was closer than the narrator says. The GT3 had some major oversteer on the final turn coming up to the finish line. He must have lost a few tenths just there.

edmunds manage 0-60 in 3.3 seconds... I hate this car because its so expensive yet at the same time its not out of the realm of possibilities for a normal joe to eventually own one down the road, new or used :( |

The arrival of the Nissan GT-R has not only clogged up the automotive news headlines, it has sparked the creative juices of many journalists. Every publication is scrambling to concoct a unique comparison test for the new Godzilla. In the past, typical comparisons consisted of nonsensical number ratings calculated through a formula that only had meaning to folks offering their opinion based off their butt cheeks. Now the objective seems to have shifted towards streamlining variables and logging repeatable data for direct overlay between vehicles. First Inside Line brought us unbiased measurements of power output, now Road and Track gives us measurements of time. They did not quite eliminate the use of their own point scale to add up the results of various tests, but at least they provided the actual time results, as well. The crew from R&T recently transported a U.S. market version of the 2009 Nissan GT-R, a 2008 Porsche 911 Turbo and a 2008 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 to Buttonwillow Raceway in California for a little fun. Don't worry about inconsistent journalist drivers either, as they also brought veteran 12 Hours of Sebring race winner Steve Millen along to be the pilot. Their plan saw each car take a few laps of race configuration 13, which has quickly become the circuit of choice for various media outlets. The typical 0-60 mph, 1/4 mile, skidpad, slalom and braking tests were also performed, but proved to be ill-equipped in distinguishing the competitors. The lap times really told the story with the Porsche clocking in at 2:02.1, the Z06 right on its tail at 2:02.02 and the GT-R well ahead at 1:56.9. Thanks for the tip Chuck! |
