Grand Prix!!!

watup guys, i will be buying a 1998 Grand prix soon. I would like to one day make some performance mods, but am a little confused. If anyone could please help me out with any of these questions?
- what is the difference between the GT and the GTP, in performance (hp/torque/1/4 times. Is the GTP supercharged or something?
-is there a drastic price difference betweent the two
- Which one could i make more bang for the buck, performacewise.
- what mods should i do, thanks alot

I can't answer your questions, but I do know that those Grand Prixs surprise a lot of people.

The GTP is supercharged. Both have 3.8l V6's, except the GTP is SC'd.
The price difference is noticible. One is pretty 'base' and the other is 'top of the line'
I highly recommend getting a GTP if you have the choice. Simple SC pulley mods and you're making really great power numbers.

They both use the same 3800 Series II V6 engine which puts out 200 hp and 225 lb-ft of torque, and the supercharger is used for 40 additional horses and another 55 lb-ft of torque. I've seen 300hp GTP's just off of a pulley mod.

The new GP's dropped the GTP in place of the GXP which has a 5.3l V8.

All Grand Prix's are FWD however, which is my one big problem with them. Yes, even that new V8 model.

thats cool. Would a GT with an aftermarket turbo or sc, be fater than a gtp?. Just trying to see what option would result in the fastest car. 40 extra horses from a turbo dsnt sound like alot more in a v6. And about it begin front wheel drive, im kinda looking for that, as it will be my winter/beater car, when i garage the 8

I saw a commercial for the V8 Grand Prix the other day and was wondering the same thing. I'm assuming now that GM's V8 Impala is also FWD. {Steiner gets ready to make GM hate speech}

The thing about those 3.8L V6's is they're not tuned for performance, even in the GTP. Just intake and exhaust will gain decently. I'm sure there are other, more serious mods available. Heads, cams etc.

In fact:

Now what everyone is wanting to know... on a completely stock L36 vehicle (which makes 160 HP on the dyno, 200 HP to the crank), the Cartuning Performance Stage 1 Turbo Kit makes 280 HP to the wheels and over 300 lb-ft of torque to the wheels. That is 350 HP to the crank, which is a 150 HP gain over stock!! How's that for one day's worth of work? The Stage 1 Kit is completely streetable, and is suitable for customers that want to bolt-on a turbo kit to a stock L36 vehicle that has little to no modifications and wants an exciting daily driver without having to modify it for months and months (sometime years!) only to get minimal performance gains. The Stage 1's turbo is good for up to 425 crank HP with additional supportive mods.
that's $3k +install.

so the gtp, with intake, exhaust and sc pulley's should do the trick?

Sounds like it. Then if you want to get crazy, you could go with pcm programmer, cam, rockers, headers, porting etc. Sometimes I miss the old domestic engines :p:
