Not much said about the RX8 and nothing about a possible RX7. The focus seems to be on the 3 & 6.

Everyone that comes on this board and insists that Ford has no say in Mazda should be referred to that article.

Though it may not make sense to us, it is perfectly logical for him to focus on those. Those car make up a main area of Mazda sells and where they can reap to gain the most. Hey the more they sell then hopefully the more money they have to spend for research on the 8 :)

Geesh. From that article, though it was good, makes me think the 8 wont be around very long. You would think Mazda's sports car would have something about next years model

What made me laugh was the mentioned the B-series. Are you kidding me. Since none of the 8 body part are interchangeable to any other of Mazdas line up I think it wont be here long. So, what happens next. Are we going to fall in the group of the 7, the Supra, the interga? Just frustrating knowing that the 8 doesn't have the best resale value, they are selling for invoice or below and now no good changes for next year.

Actually I believe that the article is positive for the 8. It does share parts with the Miata (the tranny etc.) and that is even more of a case to support an RX7 in the future--as it would share components with the 8. Also, as long as Mazda is doing financially well then the whole lineup benefits. The RX8s resale is actually good considering--I don't know what cars you guys are comparing resale value with--Benzes, Porsches? Its the first couple of years on a niche car. Last time I checked my local Nissan dealer they were selling 350Zs for invoice or below and they had just as many Zs on the lot as the neighboring Mazda dealer had RX8s. The sales are not indicative of the car itself--but of the economy. Sorry my glass-is-half-empty friend, the RX8 will be here for a while. The more $ they make on 3s, 6s, and everything else the more $$ they can get to do projects like the Miata, RX, and Mazdaspeed. Also--your comparison to the 7, Supra, and Integra is flawed. The market was different back then--those cars were limited in their use, high insurance, and base prices north of $40,000 killed those. The integra wasn't discontinued--and is not in the same league as these cars anyway. The integra lives on as the RSX--in fact I believe it is still sold has a Honda Integra in Japan--someone correct me if I am wrong on that.

It is still an Integra in Japan and Japan gets the Type-R version... also the Civic Type-R with the same basic drivetrain...

My local Mazda dealer is only able to sell used 8s fro around 20k. Some buy these cars for 30k and turn around and sell it for whatever reason and the trade in value sucks. I didn't compare the 8 to the 7, supra, or integra. I just said it might not stick around as some other cars, i.e those, failed aswell. The intergra doesn't hold any water because even though it's in Japan what good is it too us. If the 8 sells over there and not here we still don't have it. I just don't understand why Mazda is adding performance to basically it's entire line up but doesn't mention anything (beside a new color which does hold any weight right now) about the 8. We have heard for 2 years about a ''Renegade" rotary. I think Mazda is stalling as much as they can too see what the long term sales numbers will be for this car. Usually every new model year have some kind or performance change. Not just a new color each year. But I am not a Mazda person so I can't say for sure

JDM is what... 220hp I believe... lighter car... especially in the Civic's case... I dunno...

ehh, civics are gay i dont care how much you fix them up, i wouldnt be caught dead driving one. the integra has class(JDM dc2 and either dc5)

you're correct about it having a simular drivetrain with the K20A engine. you can actually get something very close to a Type R here in america, a RSX Type-S A-Spec, in which case you'd do some intake and exhaust manifold mods to convert the K20A3 to a K20A, because they're essentially the same engine, but if you want to keep it real you get a K20A off a dc5 ITR. then also replace your USDM badges with the honda ones and swap for JDM wheels and JDM interior trim pieces, no big deal.
