Pickup trucks and tractor-trailers were the worst at not seeing me individually when I rode motorcycles across the country. So our motorcycle group rode in a spread out pack, in staggered alignment so we could be seen. But even that didn't stop some trucks and cars, in a big hurry, from trying to lane change right through our pack.

But yes, the best advice is to anticipate that you aren't being seen, especially by trucks , and just preemptively and safely get out of their way. I could not believe how many times over the years at toll booths that approaching cars didn't see a stopped motorcyclist paying a toll.

As a news photographer I covered far too many fatal accidents where larger vehicles failed to see smaller sports cars and motorcyclists.
