Neat Jalopnik article with some of the best pictures I have found of the 4 rotor engine. Also a good explainer on intake runner length vs rpm, I think it gives some nice background on how Mazda got to the RX8 intake system.

here's bit of trivia maybe not covered in the article. you see those pulleys on the carbon fiber plate that actually change the runner length by pulling on the cables? those pulleys are moved by windshield wiper motors:)

I got to hold one of those plates with the bits on it years ago at Downing Atlanta :)

And yeah if you check out the RotaryNews facebook page that teardown/rebuilt is really cool. They engine in the vids was at Lemans in 1991

The version I heard is they're window motors.

That would make more sense as they would be able to reverse.
