Going to the strip is bad for me...

So I was out at the strip again this weekend, not to race or even watch races but to see my sister who was entering her Bug in the VW show there. Turns out they had a race event as well as the VW show and races. The usual array of cars, everything from guys running 18s in their Cavaliers to 7s in their funnycars. But everytime I go I find myself inching closer and closer to getting something seriously fast.

I go to track days and I end up missing my shifter kart days more than anything, but the strip sends me home searching autotrader for WS6s, 03+ Cobras and older stangs, Supras, Grand Nationals, etc etc... I can get one of these cars, but I really shouldn't, it's just not practical and my WRX feels fast enough for me. Not to mention I've driven a lot of these cars and they just don't feel all that great. But at the strip even a 12 second car, which is where my WRX will be, if I keep it long enough, looks so slow compared to some of the other beasts out there. Damnit, I want to go really fast! Something with a wheelie bar and parachute please! :p

Anyone else have this problem or am I one of the few here that go to the strip fairly often (my best friend lives 2 minutes from it)?

I do, Everytime I go I want a Cobra really bad. Or when the bikes pull up to race I have Hayabusa envy.

I have your answer ike.. Today I saw an Audi A-4 that had been transformed into a Viper.. it had the little triangle vented hood and body kit.. surely this makes the car a 7 sec car !!!

Im the same when I go to the track. I want something that will push the teeth in the back of my head when I step on the throttle. Thing is, most of those cars I do not like....so I will get a bike someday for that speed.

I really like WS6s, I didn't used to but each time I got to the strip they get more and more appealing.

I need to call and see what the difference in my insurance would be, maybe that'll make me forget about them in a hurry.

I feel your pain Ike. I've got a similar problem with this new GT500 coming out.

Is it required a grow a mullet, watch NASCAR, and chew tobacco if I buy a Trans Am? :p I'd need to get something to put up on a block for the front yard as well...

There's a gorgeous gold one for sale about four miles from my house. Across the street, a cobalt blue Z32 is also for sale . . . I keep wondering which one is going to get sold first.

Peace

I feel your pain Ike. My first car was a '66 Barracuda. These turbo charged AWD cars are a blast and easier on the wallet at the pump, but nothing sounds as sweet as a Detroit V8 with a lumpy cam and some straight pipes. I'll always have a soft spot for iron block, carburated, tire scorching American muscle. The constant smell of gas...the old smell of the interior...the incredible simplicity and accesibility underneath the hood.

I always catch myself staring at SVT Cobras, LS1 f-bodies, GTO's, Mustangs, Corvettes and Lighting trucks out on the road. Someday when I'm balding and my pecker doesn't work anymore I'll buy myself a project car and spent my golden years in the garage with a wrench and a red shop towel. There's just something about a '69 Roadrunner (meep meep) with a blown 426ci hemi, 8 3/4 posi rear end running something like a 4.10 1st gear ratio through a beefed up Torqueflite 727 with an insanely high RPM torque converter spinning enough Mickey Thompson rubber to send women and children running. Hey if I'm dreaming why not aim high, right? ;)
