Getting A Mega Treat This Weekend!!
 

Well as part of the agreement my father made to me when we bought my RX-8, I am finally going to learn how to drive stick this weekend. Because we would only have 2 cars while my dad was at work and a max 3 with both my older brother and sister home from college, everyone needed to be able to drive my car. I did my best to convince him to get the manual when the car was bought, but I couldn't push it. After all, I did get the sweetest car ever!

Now, he promised me (because I and he both knew stick was the best) that he would teach me how to drive stick. Unfortunatly we do not have any manual cars atm so I had to wait....untill now. He told me all I had to do was find a place to rent a stick shift car and we would get it for the weekend or maybe even a week, depending on how long I need to fully learn it. Here is the funny part: The only place we could find (that was affordable) that rented manual cars near our home was U-Haul. To add to the pile, the only car they rent in a stick was an enormous 35 foot moving truck! That is 50 percent longer than my Father's Suburban! He said this could be good even great news because it will be impossible to hurt the tranny. Also, my Mom has been on our backs to put a shed in the backyard to empty out all the shit in the garage. This truck will enable us to just buy a damn shed instead of build one and move it back there with this truck.

Funny how Mom's list of things that need to be done get worked on when the men have a funny project going, huh? My father is retiring in about a year so he said if I know how to drive stick well enough I can drive his retirement car around. This is even greater news because so far we have been cross shopping between a Caddy CTS-V and a new Z06 Vette. Either way, I want to learn ASAP!

Tomorrow we are going to go see a movie and rent the truck. I will post some pics of this massive truck and me grinding some gears. Haha.

Any other ideas for a retirement car for a man who has driven 70 miles round trip to work the past 30+ years in a Suburban during rush hour? This man deserves a lot and I really want to try and help him get the car of his dreams. He even said if we find a good deal in the midwest, we would fly out there and drive it back. He wants to visit some old relatives and said we would do a father/son drive across the country in some kick ass ride.

congrats on the car, indeed this car is best with the 6speed.

the first manual car i ever drove was a 4spd uhaul. its pretty easy, after you know the basics youll be good to go. maby a few hours and youll get it

Im assuming hes looking for a fun car, not a daily driver. I recommend:

A. Lotus Elise (~$40,000)
B. Used Ferrari Testarossa or 512TR (~$60,000-70,000)

Z06 is a monster of a car, but It wont be nearly as fun as driving either of these cars. Driving a mid engined v12 Ferrari is an experience like none other.
