GEICO's Mechanical Breakdown Coverage?

After my thread on Gap Insurance, I called Geico to maybe switch from State Farm. My agent at State Farm was a d!ck anyways. Well they do not offer Gap Insurance but, they Geico agent told me that they offer something for free called Mechanical Breakdown Coverage which is, supposed, to be equivalent to an extended warranty. He did not give much details other than it is "the same as a factory extended warranty." I found out later that the catch is, it has a $250 deductable everytime you claim "warranty-type" work. If that were the case, I'd have spent over $2500 in deductables alone for my 8. Do any of you guys insure with Geico? And if so, how overarching and flexible is this Mechancial Breakdown Coverage?

Thanks in advance.

5 warranty jobs would pay for the mazda extended

It's not for my 8...an extended warranty for the 8 is like golden crack, covered in chocolate syrup with nekked supermodels on top! I'm considering this coverage for my Nissan.

make a claim for anything though, even for roadside ( flat tire or jumpstart ) and geico records it as a claim and jacks your rate.. and it shows to very other insurance agent as a claim too.

How do you know this? I mean, it sound ridiculous to count it as a claim. How would it be a "at fault" claim if it's warranty work? If this is true, then this policy has got to be the most retarded thing since...ventillated condoms or something!

Stay with SF and just look for another agent....some of them can be a..holes. I have SF and you can't beat the coverage or claim handling process. Geeko has always been vague in what they offer and how they handle claims....I know first hand. Geeko will also cancel your policy at the drop of a dime. In my area Geeko writes aftermarket sheet metal on their estimates and always try to low ball the shops doing repairs. SF does not write estimates with aftermarket sheet metal unless a customer requests it to possibly keep their car from being totalled. You have a good company just picked a bad apple.

I have Geeko and now Im thinking of switching, their rates are really too high.

I have this mechincal break down covered, but it really sound just like Extended Warranty.

My insurance is almost up so .... Thinking of Progressive, SF and AllState. Any other ideas ?

Geico has to get money for their comercials they run all day as well...

They wanted to charge me $1600 every 6 months for insurance about 8 years ago. That was over twice as much as I was paying, so needless to say I stayed with my then insurance provider...

American Family is what I am using and their rates are decent.

I have spent the last 12 yrs in the insurance industry. He is my opinion from what I have learned over the years: Geico and Progressive...you get what you pay for. Nationwide and Allstate....very close but no cigar. SF and USAA.....can't go wrong with either.

my policy will end at June, renew ever 1/2 year, Last time Geico gave me around 1500 and Progressive is 1400 .... well. I think its pretty close and I've had Geico for a year something already so I stayed...

Now I just ran the Progressive Quote and its about 1000 INCLUDING customer parts price .... Now Im waiting for Geico to send me back with their latest quote cuz I just fill out the survey and sent it back ....

But most likely I'll switch, Geico's rate are almost always higher than the others anyway. the money I've paid could probably buy me 2-3 exhaust for my car.

I was thinking of StateFarm but Im kinda lazy so .... ahh I will find an agent. My friend has allstate and he said its good so I dunno.

ITs time to dig around I still have about 2 months of time ~

Just shop around and make sure you ask lots of questions. I would get more than just the state requirements cause now days cars, medical expenses and lawsuits are alot higher than years ago. I hate to see ppl get just the minumum requirements and think their insurance company is supposed to pay over and above the coverage they selected just because. Also make sure you read your policy.....alot of ppl say they have full coverage and automatically think that covers everything. Their are endorsements to full coverage like rental car, cell phone, cd/tape coverage, etc. These endorsement have limits of coverage so be specific when asking. If you get a good agent you won't have to ask many questions.

A good price is important but not always the way to go. Remember you will get what you pay for.
