gas light!! how many miles do i have left to drive?
its seems to come on a little prematurely compared to my other cars..can u help me out? how long can i drive..(highway) once that light is beamin at me
|
If I recall you have about 40 miles left depending on your gas mileage. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I think about 2 gallons after the light comes on.
|
I was thinking about 50 but 40 is safe to figure,
|
LOL, 40-50! It's more like 25-30 at highway speeds.
|
Tank is 60 liters, light comes on at 50 liters so 10 left = 2.5 of your fine US gallons x your highway mileage......

My dad was a pilot and told me that you always have just enough fuel to get you to the scene of the crash. I'm sure that applies to cars somehow as well.
|
when the light comes on, my rule is max 30 miles. i prefer no more than 20.
|
From experience a week ago...I went about 27 miles from the time the light came on until I found a gas station (I reset one of the tripmeters when the light came on). When I filled up, the car took 13.9 gallons. So, with a capacity of 15.8 gallons, and averaging 20.3 for my trip...I COULD have driven about 65-66ish miles before being bone dry.
That was the first time I stretched to over 280 miles on a tank, all highway with cruise set at 85. |
In my experience, if you cruise at 80 you should net 310-325 a tank. I have on more than one trip. I do generally stick to the 20-30 rule just to be safe.

S and i have run the tank dry twice to prove it.. beers  |
Did you make it to the scene of the crash?:)
|
i heard the car dies with a gallon left in the tank...?
|
It probably depends on which side of the saddle tank it's in...

i have put 16.1 gal in the tank.. beers  |
I pushed it just to around 55 miles on a road trip last year and the needle went much lower than I thought it would ever go (several ticks below the empty line) so Stealth's formula sounds rather accurate. BTW - if you ever drive through northern New Mexico in this car you better make damn sure you get gas when you can.

Believe it or not, there was a thread on this subject already... it mentions some facts which will tell you that you might have quite a bit less gas than you think... Search and thou shall find.

Yup. I did 15 miles on the freeway when my light poped up! I was like Oh NoZ!
