The Ford GT

Yah yah, I know there are threads on this, I searched, but I didnt like them :p

I just finished watching the Top Gear test of the Ford GT again and again and again. Man I love that car! Clarkson puts it bang on when he says its a blue collar car. I know that some people won't like it because it is a Ford, but there is no denying it performance.

Just thought I would share a couple pics that I really like

The Ford GT is probably the best supercar for sale. For $150,000, you too can get a blistering 1/4 mile time, as well as spank some Ferrari and GT3 butt. Don't believe me? Car & Driver committed itself to testing the Ferrari 360 Stradale, the Porsche GT3, and the Ford GT. Other than a less than desirable interior, the Ford GT completely dominated the others. I give credit to its supercharged engine. Who cares if it has a low hp per liter ratio? That's boy-racer talk. The blower has instant throttle response, and is a real N/A killer in high altitudes. If anyone says the 5.4 DOHC MOD is a truck engine, they are dead wrong.

The only issue I have with this car is the interior. As other editors have stated, it's pretty much cold and lifeless. However, it is not cheap like the Corvette interior.

If I were going to own any supercar (I am not a big fan), it would most likely be the Ford GT. It's drop-dead gorgeous, it's strong, it handles. Why buy a decent house when you can live in your Ford GT?

Great car, I saw it in an autoshow and couldn't get my eyes off of it

Luv that car, I'm using the desktop from the Ford GT website. :D

I saw that too. Made me a believer. Ford (I think) did a commercial for the car - it's just a video of the GT running around the track, no voiceover, just the sounds of engine, exhaust, and tires. They seem to have gotten the exhaust note right - sounds an awful lot like a GT40.

Too bad I don't have a spare buck-50 laying around, although I believe I read that the entire first-year production run is already spoken for.

There are 2 cars...

...on the market today that I would instantly drop a large check for if I ever won the Lotto or Big Game. One is the Ford GT. I just think that the design (along with the original GT40) is one of the more beautiful shapes to ever be put onto four wheels. The other thing I love about it is that it is so American: Big V-8 power, supercharging, aggressive stance and a severe in-your-face attitude. Nothing in its price point comes close to it on a performance level and all but the most super of the exotics would be left wanting behind it on the street or track and those cars a more than double the GT's price.

As far as it being a Ford...I do not see that as a negative at all. As I've said in other posts, of all the American car companies, Ford has the most cred when it comes to racing. They have raced and won all over the world, in every major racing series and have powered the many of the best drivers to many world championships. The GT is the direct decendent to the GT40...a car that won LeMans four years straight. If you want to talk about racing genes, the GT has some of the best.

I really love the GT...it's the Porsche Carrera GT that I really lust after, though! :D

P.S. That Jeremy Clarkson is one lucky bastard...not only does he get paid to thrash and push very hot and expensive machinery, in his formal test of the Ford GT, he admitted he was one of the "lucky 28" to be getting the Ford GT in Great Britain for this model year. Man, guess Top Gear must pay really, really well! ;)

my brother is trying to get one like next year i think, i think it's an awesome car and a great bang for the buck, if i had the money i would get it right away, but wouldn't keep it here in alaska, to cold in the winter, and i would only get to drive it for like 3 months.

to any car mag that says it can beat by a viper, they are dead wrong, this car tears the crap out of the viper, yes, i read that in a car and driver mag i think, apparently they said the viper beat it in the 1/4 mile, but i don't belive everything out of a car mag.

i think it was car and driver, but i'm not sure

there's people that have been able to get this car to go 0-60 in like 3.1 or 3.2 seconds, all i can, holy crap!!!

I think I read that! I thought it was closer to matching it than beating it.

I personally wonder why Ford didn't aim for making the car to beat the Enzo instead of the 360 Stradale. I watched some show one night where they showed the developement of the Ford GT. They did it amazingly quick!

Found the article, it's actually Motor Trend!

I love that Ford GT. Killer car for that price. I rank it up there with the GT 40 and the old Shelby Cobras for baddest American muscle.

Red Devil 08-12-2004 01:44 PM

Definitely a fantastic car. I saw it at the Chicago Auto Show, and the color scheme was Silver with Dark Blue stripes - which I prefer over the red and white combo. But I haven't seen that color scheme in any magazines or otherwise since.

MadRonin 08-12-2004 02:28 PM

There are only two Fords that are even remotely on my list of must have cars; the Cobra and the GT.

The GT is one of the best looking cars I've ever seen. I bet it drives nice too. :D

That's all I have to say about that.

c'mon, lets use the correct terminology: ricer bullshit.

anyways, the GT is an awesome, awesome car. i thought Ford was gonna screw it up, but i'm quite glad they didn't.

The Ford GT has excellent specific output--Ford brags on their web page that it is 101.9 hp/liter. If it were say, 82 hp/liter like the 350Z, then the GT would have only a 442 hp engine. High specific output just means lots of power--How can you say that is somehow bad?

Jay Leno picked up the first one in Los Angeles on saturday at my dealership! Galpin Ford the #1 dealership in the world. I managed to snap a couple of pics! What an awesome car!

Whoa, those pics are WAY too small.

I guess I would be the only person here that if I was dropping $150K-$165K I would probably get a Porsche GT2 over the Ford GT. The street price of the GT2 is about $140K-$150K. The new version has lighter wheels, carbon fiber wing, and 477 hp and it's still a Porsche. A GT2 is a drivable everyday car, a Ford GT is not. Not to mention for the size of the car, the Ford GT has 1 !!! cu. ft. of trunk space.....what is that the glove compartment. I guess that is nitpicky but that is not even enough space to take your tools to the track with you. If you have money to burn on a "track only" car then the GTmight just be your car.

shigginsrx8 08-12-2004 11:07 PM

IMO if you have money to burn on a 150k car, its not your daily driver and that isnt the point of one of these cars. But the GT2 is a sweet ride
