Ford Escort to return in 2011 with 100mpg!
http://www.mobilemag.com/content/100/354/C13415/
Ford will revive the Escort name in just 3 years with production of a Plug-in Hybrid which will have fuel economy of 100 mpg. Ford hopes to get ahead of GM with its Chevy Volt. Looks like the race is on as Chevy is givng roughly the same time frame but might make it out sooner. RG- i guess they were all thinking about series hybrids after all. just took some time for them to turn the corner. |
Hmm.. curious if this has anything to do with the avg. fuel economy for each car maker must meet now if not soon? Having a 100mpg car would greatly increase that avg and allow for lower milage cars to pass on thru untouched.

100 mpg?! wow.
Yup, this will help the 'ol Bell Curve. :) |
wow, at least it doesn't look as bad as it's dad
|
YEE HAW that means we can still drive our 12 MPG SUV's!
The fleet average rocks! |
100 mpg seems pretty hard to achieve in a practical car, I guess thats why it's a "2011" After all I thought cars were suppose to be flying by now hahaha
|
^ in the 80s they said cars would be flying by 2005....

Electric cars are our future now? What are we gonna do with all those batteries!!!!

have you heard of the new Mini Cooper D? http://www.duemotori.com/news/eco_ca...Grand_Prix.php the same or less emissions than the leading hybrids and a combined 70+ miles per gallon. thats without any electrical motor to make it a hybrid. previous thread https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...highlight=mini |
MINI Cooper D has been around in Europe since the new MINIs in 2002. Its the new gen, out in 2007, that gets that super-amazing mpg. BTW, that imperial MPG, and IIRC equates to high 50's MPG in the states (I think its actually rated 64mpg imperial combined).

hence my use of the word "new"

I was just elaborating :)
