Remember, it's still a Civic. No need to jizz your pants over it.

I am just gonna quote someone from DriveAccord here:

$34,775 is the sticker. Just wait until they get to the dealer and the "market adjustment" gets added to the bottom line. Then they park it in the middle of the showroom behind velvet ropes where you can only sit in it on Wednesdays between 3 PM and closing AFTER you make an appointment and give them a 500 dollar deposit. All that for a Civic that will get you revved on by every sub-protozoa at every traffic light on your daily commute. No thanks.

That's understandable. Again, RX-8 is a nice Grand Tourer with good performance and nice interior, with lots of room in the back(go sit in the back seats of a new Mustang and you will know). STI has that "Boy Racer" look problem that plagues the Type R, while Focus RS is a FWD Hot Hatch. I have no hard feelings towards VW personally, I actually quite like Golf GTI.

Edit: the US$200k Type R was sold for charity purposes. My apology for not researching first and coming to quick conclusions.

But you buy Rotaries, that makes sense.

The Focus RS is all wheel drive.

It's a good time to be an automotive enthusiast. want an electric car? you got options. Hybrid? yawn, lots of choices. 700hp 4-door family sedan? sign here. A 300hp hot hatch? here you go.

I personally don't want any of them, but glad they exist.

Wow, the appearance package is a joke already and the market adjustment is nuts. I would suggest to sit tight for a couple months till they actually roll off the boats, or simply tell said dealer the car is interesting at MSRP, but for more than that there are plenty of other cars to be had or other dealers one could talk to.

RE: the dyno, cue the dyno is all relative discussion although based on the reviews and the 'ring time, it does seem like the type-r hp rating may be conservative. I've heard the same about the GTI and Golf R as well though.

Thanks for the correction.

It is a Hot Hatch, however, so it's not surprising that most RX-8 crowds aren't exactly impressed by it.

Isn't this the RX8club forum, 9krpmrx8? I guess buying rotaries makes sense to RX8club members, duh! Owned various brands of cars, but are very selective in what moves me.

No I meant that we got scammed as well. Well, the people who originally bought them thinking the made 250HP as advertised and not 238. they had a similar incident with the Miata and overstating the HP figures. Mazda had to buy a bunch of them back or they offered free maintenance for 50k. Every manufacturer scam customers to some degree, VW just brought it to light and now we see that they were not the only ones fudging the numbers.

But if you want a lightweight, RWD sports car with good handling, decent power and a decent price, you're SOL. I suppose the Z is as close as it gets, but even that is a little on the heavy side.

Mazda fudging the hp numbers on the first RX8s pales in comparison to the environmental and financial damage inflicted on countries and hundreds of thousands of duped owners worldwide in the VW corporate decision to scam the world with its phony "clean" diesels, which were actually polluting 10x as much as allowed by law..

As California officials noted, they can actually tie numbers of additional respiratory deaths to the years of increased and excessive pollution from VW vehicles . Mazda's RX8 hp numbers didn't kill anyone, and rip off owners worldwide for 10s of millions of dollars, 9krpmrx8.

Back to the original topic, Honda will settle down and sell them eventually for a sensible price, or else "sensible" buyers will ignore this car and spend their hard earned sports car money elsewhere. The spotlight, even on this car, will dim when the next greater sports car hits the scene.

A scam is a scam, how big it is doesn't matter. That's like saying shop lifting is okay because no one was hurt and they didn't steal anything of high value.

I'd like more options there as well. But even there, we have the Hyandai coupe, BRZ twins, Z car, Mustang, Camaro, even the base Vette. The v6 Camaro is a pretty smokin deal... Heavier and bigger than I like but a heck of a deal.

And of course the Miata, which is a hoot, light, RWD and does 0-60 under 6 secs... it's up to the user if this is 'decent' power!

9krpmrx8, you are in your own fantasy zone if you truly wish to compare a few hp numbers on early RX8s vs what VW did to the world environment and its hundreds of thousands of diesel buyers for years. One bullet vs an atomic bomb, it does make a difference.

Yes Steve, buying a VW made before their scam, would be a solution if you wanted a VW. I happily worked with Golf race teams in SCCA years ago ( crewing and photographing with stories in Road and Track and other media) , but presently have no interest in what they make and don't trust them.

BTW have a great race driver friend who used to race Mazda RX4s, RX7s,and then VW GTIs in SCCA ,and owned a string of VWs including a recent VW diesel sedan. It gave him so much trouble with engine repairs in the first year, that after the fifth warranty engine repair, he ditched the VW diesel ,sold his other family VWs, and came back to Mazda, first with a Skyactive Mazda 6 and more recently with Skyactive Mazda3s for both himself and his daughter. All manual trannys.

Huh, I thought TDI is interesting, but I suppose I will have to look at it differently now.

Diesel is better for the environment is hogwash. Europe bought that idea, and it turns out that they are not better off with diesel. Diesel does have good fuel mileage and emits less, but the stuff it emits out is way more harmful.

Jeez, 20k "Limited Availability" fee? It's a Civic guys... it's supposed to be an economical, entry level car, isn't it?

No one with any sense will pay Porsche and Corvette prices for any Honda Civic. Just like the guy in the video, sane folks will just walk away. If Honda gets rich, stupid folks to pay that price, that is their own stupidity. My local Honda dealer (whom I have bought four Hondas from over the years) says he will sell it for list, and no ridiculous dealer premium.

Speaking of Porsche, isn't a used 981 Cayman S a way better car? Better badge. Better performance. RWD. Cheaper too! I'd say the 718 but it sounds awful lol.
