F*&K The Midas Touch...

I assume that this type of thing doesn't happen often but if anyone has any advice from a similar experience I would greatly appreciate it. I took my 8 to Midas just to have the pads replaced. I guess they do some kind of complementary inspection and it involved them taking the car for a test drive. While the mechanic was out in my car he managed to get into a multi-car accident crushing both the front and rear ends of the car. I've already notified my insurance and they are going to handle the situation for me. I did learn that the mechanic deviated from the normal course that they usually take to test drive cars. I think it would be appropriate to stick it to Midas and get a little something extra for this guy taking a joyride in my car.

What..... the.......... F&*K?

That is wild.... step one, don't take the car to Midas. Call lawyer fer sure.

BlueEyes 09-08-2007 02:15 PM

That sucks hard. Hopefully insurance handles it well for you.

Why on earth would you take your car to Midas? especially for something as trivial as changing the pads?

SayNoToPistons 09-08-2007 02:30 PM

 . Well, someone gotta start looking for a job!

BigRed 09-08-2007 02:36 PM

nycgps 09-08-2007 04:33 PM

Wow, that sucks balls

IF I am you, I will tell them to pay me at least twice the amount of what a new 8's worth.

My local shop will test drive for brakes. Quick and easy way to know if you have to turn rotors or not for warping.

First contact a lawyer and tell him/her whats going on. Your insurance will handle the rest in regards to getting money for repairs. Your lawyer should be able to get some form of damages for you from both Midas itself and from the guys own insurance company. I honestly can't believe this happened, well I can sadly I'm just in disbelief that your car pretty much got gangbanged by some immature employee who seen your "sports car" and though "whoohoo lets go have sum fun"

nt5k 09-09-2007 12:18 AM

Uhh.. It looks like he got rearended and possibly pushed into the car infront of him..
Just be thankful that the guy is alright. Machines can be fixed/replaced. Life happens man, we just gotta pick what's worth getting all worked up about.

Dude when I was at brake team haveing them brake lose the boults on my calipers. A guy with a beat up Venom Viper droped his car off. You can guess what happen, They all took turns "test driving" the car. I was there for about 30min an was out! Went home did my own install.

+1
:wtf:

That major blows. I hope for the best and that everthing gets straightened out soon. Those guys are fucking retards. How the hell did he even do that? I haev never heard of them taking the car out for a test run when they replace the pads. It was probably one of those bullshit lies just so he could take you car for a spin. Lets all make sure we never go to Midas. Can you believe those fuckers wanted to charge me $200 to install my Borla exhaust. I thought to myself "Who the hell do you think I am an idiot!" They probably would have done a bad job anyway. i decided to take it to an exhaust shop and they installed it for $40.

You should consult an attorney, but their defense (Midas) is going to say that something like brake pad replacement requires a test drive to ensure a safe condition. If the mechanic was goofing off, then that is on him and not Midas.

I'm sure you know by now that Midas does not have a good reputation to say the least. It is usually best to avoid the" big chain" type repair shops. Check out the DIY section on the forum to change brake pads, it's actually pretty easy with easily available hand tools. At least the front ones.....I believe a certain tool was required for the rears, but I still had plenty of pad material on my rears when I replaced the fronts

We all know who the best service really is. We can leave that one up to our record. Everyone will enjoy watching us beat Air Force and Army again and again and again.

This is the real stinger, I had been planning on replacing the pads myself but since I am a Midshipman I cant leave the base except on weekends. Ive had too much other stuff to do and I didnt want the pads to start damaging the rotors. I told the mechanic that it needed new pads. Instead of taking the car for a test drive after he replaced the pads, he took it for a drive before. Now im no expert on these things but I would imagine that it would make more sense to take a drive after the work was preformed to make sure that everything worked normally. He should have been able to see any potential problems when he put the car on the lift, not into the back of another car. If anyone knows what the normal procedure is (granted that you take your car to a place that actually does honest work) I would be interested to hear it.

You should be able to get something out it. The value on your car is going to go down because of an accident, you should be compensated in some way.

DOMINION 09-09-2007 08:54 PM

Turbo ;)

Should just be take car to a back road or parkinglot and do a few quick 0-XX speed pull and stops to wear the pads in a bit then wham back to you. Though most place's I'm sure just slap the pads on and send you on your way.

You get ahold of a lawyer yet? I'm sure one of them will love this and just see pure $$$ for you. I usualy hate law suits but I fully believe stupidity should be punished and most people nowadays only learn after money leaves their hands.
