Forgot some specs..
The 2.0-litre direct-injection four-cylinder petrol engine delivers 113kW of power at 6000rpm and 194Nm of torque at 4100rpm, making it around six per cent more potent than the existing MZR 2.0-litre found in other Mazda3 models.
As well as the 5kg-lighter Sky-G engine, aiding the SP20’s efficiency will be Mazda’s ‘i-stop’ idle-stop system and body enhancements that are said to improve the car’s aerodynamic drag by as much as 15 per cent.
Also with SkyActiv-Drive six-speed automatic transmission, which will eventually replace the five-speed now optional across the majority of the current Mazda3 range.
The updated Mazda3 will also bring new wheel designs, higher-quality interior surfaces, more harmonious instrument illumination (red is replaced by cool white) and the addition of more metallic-like trim, while the SkyActiv-equipped Mazda3 will be distinguished by its blue-ringed headlight lens and ‘SKYACTIV’ badges.
Mazda says all facelifted 3s will gain revised dampers for nimbler handling and a more comfortable ride, while improved body rigidity (thanks to a series of underbody reinforcements) is claimed to enhance steering and handling.
A series of aerodynamic improvements also reduces the Mazda3’s aerodynamic drag from 0.31 to 0.27Cd (sedan) and from 0.33 to 0.29Cd (hatch).
Mazda 3 is Mazda’s fastest-growing passenger car globally with more than three million total sales.
Accounting for a third of the company’s global sales, the Mazda3 is Australia’s top-selling privately purchased vehicle and to July this year lies just 81 sales short of Holden’s Commodore – the nation’s most popular vehicle for the past 13 years.

from 0.33 to 0.29 (hatch) ? that's pretty impressive.
Just by looking at the new Mazda3 picture, they changed some of the body lines and position stuff, like the front mask, the side mirrors. I have a Mazda3 so I can tell which part of the exterior has changed right away.
but what I am thinking (most) right now is how good is their MPG gonna be. Will the US version even get i-stop ? The reason I said that because it's sad to say this but, most drivers in American are so stupid that they ask stupid questions like "Car needs to change oil?"(my friend asked me this, LOL) It will be hard for Mazda to try to get them to even pay extra for it. To most of these idiots, a car is just a car. 4 wheels, it uses gas, it moves, that's it.
For me : if they make enough "change," I might just dump the Mazda3 I got now and get another one with SkyActiv ... Just another way to support Mazda so they can release the next Rotary Engine. LOL

Well, I am looking forward to the SkyActive Diesel cars they plan on putting out. Next car for us will definitely be a diesel. Having looked at the 2.0 TDI from VW/Audi and the 3.0L twin turbo diesel monster from BMW, the Mazda solution is definitely attractive even compared against the two best diesel engines for the international market. 340lb-ft of torque and a 5200 RPM redline from a 4 cyl diesel! The BMW 3.0L twin turbo unit makes 425ft-lb, and it without a doubt boogies in my friends 335d and gets mid 30s MPG NYC local and highway traffic combined, that is with some heavy throttle use every now and then. I cant wait experience the figures that the SkyActive-D can provide.
Though this video says 370 ft lb of tq. Not sure if that is correct and/or applies to the U.S. market.

Also the Mazda i-stop system being available in the SA Mazda 3 uses twin Batteries, a “main” and “sub” batteries. The sub battery runs the starter, no problems occurs even if the main battery is low when starting the engine.

Mazda Australia have said we are getting i-stop in the SA Mazda 3 SP20, so I am pretty sure the US will get it also, we will know in a month.

I'd love to see an Australian EPC screen shot of section 1800 for the skyactive or even section 6600 if possible. Privately or on here if it's appropriate. I know you are able to make such strange things happen .

I've been studying the US EPC for about two months now being a total Mazda geek and skyactivist . The US will not be getting i-stop as we have no extra battery on the PE engine equipped cars which they refer to as 2.0 with 6 speed manual or 2.0 with 6 speed auto.

However having said that...
Edit..this is the face-lifted Mazda 3 with Skyactiv..ONLY in the Auto Trans.

Another little vid of a test on the Skyactive-G prototype done by DrivingSports. Same Canadian event as the other one I posted. Plus a little something something on the so called 70+mpg Mazda Demio.

What a ******...the driver..

that interview was chalked full of ridiculousness like:
"why do your cars suck more than your competitors" (i'm paraphrasing)
and "what's that in american miles?" (at an interview conducted in canada)
and then goes on to complain about not being able to do a clutch dump...in an automatic.
I'm all for tough questions and criticism but that just seemed liked he just being jerk or a troll. I can't tell if it's be he just doesn't like mazda or if he's doing to look "more like an unbiased critic". It seemed like a lot of baseless nit picking.

or all of the above ?

i'm guess that. I watched the video of them reviewing the mazda2 (which as the skyactiv segment in it) and they did a lot of the same nit picking on the 2. it ONLY has 100hp and doesn't get 40mpg like the fiesta! but just before that they were like "OMG look at this honda fit! it gets a mind boggling 117hp!!! AND 33mpg!!! OMG!!
The only criticism of the fit they had was that it has a soft suspension. Actually it seemed like they viewed any suspension that isn't steal rods as a major fault in the car.

The Mazda 2 and the Ford Fiesta in similar priced configuration get the same MPG. The Ford Fiesta configuration that gets that "40 mpg" talk starts at $2,000 HIGHER than the HIGHEST PRICED Mazda 2. Anyone who wants to check that can go to epa.gov and check the figures themselves and then price the models at edmunds or the respective company sites.

it's not a Honda? It's not a Toyota? and it's Japanese? It must be garbage.
like serothis said, these morons will praise Honda FIT but said Mazda sucks. Dude, I had Honda FIT for over a year, compare to their what, 1 hour of "experience" during the review, I know their "reviews" are nothing but full of ****.
