I'm assuming that's the diesel model. FMIC? Not a huge fan of the front, but the rear I love.

Really interested in how the CX-5 performs with stiffer springs and anti-sway bars from AutoEXE.

Don't know about the grill. I really like the stock Mazda one. I like the middle exit exhaust and the suspension upgrades.

Anything new on this? I've still only seen rumors, but nothing remotely official.

Am I the only one that things the Mitsu ASX released for the Aussie market shares some cues from the CX-5?

ASX is on sale BEFORE cx-5 (since 2010 at least here in EU)

but CX-5 looks better than ASX especially in person. ASX is slightly smaller than Mazda.

Looks like the bastard child of an Outlander and an Evo

Right, but I am talking about the slight facelift.

    • Narrowed down crankshaft journal
    • Optimized piston skirt shape
    • Lowered piston ring tension
    • Roller follower adopted
    • Reduction of valve spring load
    • Stabilization of timing chain behavior
    • Optimized engine coolant passage
    • Optimized water pump impeller shape
    • Lowered drive belt tension
    • Optimized oil passage
    • Optimized oil pump shape
    • Oil pump discharging pressure control has been adopted.
  • Improvement of pumping loss
    • Variable valve timing mechanism has been adopted on both sides of intake and exhaust.
  • L-jetronic*1 and D-jetronic*2 type detectors have been adopted for intake air amount detection, improving the accuracy of the intake air amount measurement.
    • MAF sensor adopted
    • MAP sensor adopted
    • IAT sensor No.1 and No.2 adopted
  • Valve timing control has been adopted on both sides of the intake and exhaust, improving fuel economy and emission performance.

Wow, neat info, now I feel like I'm driving an exotic, lol. 2,000+ miles on mine (CX-5) now, and I really love the engine and transmission... which surprises myself, having made quite a change going from a rotary manual to a piston automatic

But it really is a ton of fun to drive (along with just being super useful), both in urban errand-runnings and enjoying a twisty back road now and then.

I noticed a few things interesting:

Compression reading at 300 rpm is 128 psi, which is lower than your typical car. This illustrates what we already know: Skyactiv G takes advantage of really high theoretical compression to achieve abnormally long expansion stroke. Valve timing is causing the the miller cycle effect, with loss of charge evidenced in that number but great efficiency comes about due to the duration of expansion.

0W20 for US and Canada only .

Huh... This is unexpected. Two CX-5's were eliminated from the competition of Motor Trend's SUV of the year. Totally unexpected and probably even uncalled for. Especially since the CX-9 has made it to SUV of the year once or twice. Skip to 3:50

Escape better than CR-V and CX-5? It's all subjective, I suppose. C&D ranked them differently: 2013 Ford Escape vs., 2012 Honda CR-V, 2012 Hyundai Tucson, 2012 Kia Sportage, 2013 Mazda CX-5, 2012 Toyota RAV4 - Comparison Test - Car and Driver

I haven't driven an Escape (too expensive once we added stuff to it), but all three seem to be great cars for slightly different audiences.

2.5 L Engine in the CX-5 next year will change things up a bit, I have not read the story, but I bet POWER was one of the elimination reasons...Why should Mazda be concerned the CX-5 is outselling almost all of the competition (except NA), and Mazda can't make enough..still.

In the end America wants their cake and to eat it too...the best MPG and the highest HP.

that motor trend thing is weird. check out the poll they are running. MT Poll: Which 2013 Motor Trend Sport/Utility Contender Will Win SUOTY? - WOT on Motor Trend

you have to vote to see the standings but the CX-5 has 39% of the vote and is way ahead. seems the voter base has a different opinion than the editors

the cx-5 has better mileage and is $3k cheaper to start with
CX-5 pricing starts at $20,995, for which you get a front-drive car in Sport trim, with a manual gearbox. Step up to the auto and you'll pay $22,395 for the same trim, and add another couple of driven wheels and it rises to $23,645.

In comparison, the Escape 1.6 EcoBoost kicks off at $25,070, with 2.0-liter models starting at $26,165. For that you get standard automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive adds $1,750 to each car.

That makes the Ford more expensive, but to get the EcoBoost models you do have to go up one trim level from S to SE, making it better equipped. Even so, the next level up on the CX-5 ladder, Touring, still works out cheaper.
cx-5 did come out 2nd in their previous comparo http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...n/viewall.html

Motortrend is probably just trying to boost sales for Ford by saying it's won "Motor Trend's Top SUV in it's Class" to help the economy.

Doesn't matter, Motortrend is starting to become irrelevant with their useless biased reviews lately. Look at the great Youtube ratings they received on that video.
