This is the end, Beautiful friend ,This is the end, My only friend, the end

http://www.worldcarfans.com/9090505....ler-to-be-axed Doom and gloom are written in the sections of the bankruptcy filing documents that deal with Chrysler's Viper and Jeep Wrangler brands. These documents refer to two Chrysler entities, one called OldCo and the other is the New Chrysler. OldCo assets would not be affected by the recently-announced Fiat/ Chrysler tie up and would ultimately be closed down by 2010. These OldCo assets, including eight manufacturing plants and their machinery, have a book value of US$2.3 billion. One of them is the Conner plant in Detroit which has 115 employees who build the Viper products there. Chrysler told Inside Line "Chrysler LLC is evaluating strategic alternatives for the Viper business including the potential sale of the Viper nameplate" and that there are interested parties to the sale. The Viper would be sold as a standalone title and/or with its associated plant and tooling resources. But the worst deal seems to have been dealt to the Jeep Wrangler which is singled out in the papers specifically. Statements filed as part of the thousands of documents dealing with the bankruptcy say that a potential buyer for the Jeep Wrangler "would face significant additional investment costs in the range of $550 million to $1 billion... There are likely other significant costs that a potential buyer would have to incur in order to re-establish the brand." They also make a point to mention how attempts to sell Opel, Saturn, SAAB and HUMMER have failed because of a current unwillingness by potential buyers to invest in standalone motor brands. |

this thread needs an "alfy" illustration ....

This makes me a sad panda.
I love the new ACR viper and i always loved a GTSR in white with blue stripes. Damn this recession! |
Jeep Wrangler??? Didn't see that one coming, considering Jeep in general is Chrysler's crown jewel and was expected to be spun off in its entirety.
|
I was having Nam flash backs. with that title.
Saigon,, shit. I'm still in Saigon. |

The wrangler is really surprising... I would have expected that to be the best selling jeep...
|
Viper historian checking in here. The viper, with all the support of the VCA, will probably be sold a stand-a-lone vehicle like the article says. Too much money has been vested into the Viper such as the 24 hours races. I see the Viper sticking around for a long time, however don't look for too many face changes as the previous years has shown. With the Viper being a car produced by Dodge that uses it's own parts I think it will remain unchanged for some time.

Thanks, alfy. I can't get Door's song out of my head now.

The Viper is going? Wow this is sad indeed....:icon_no2:
The only car that was worthy from Dodge this era. A good street car , a great race car, you will be truly missed old friend! |
nooooooooooooo not the viper....
|
this is why they go bankrupt, axe the icons like the wrangler and the viper...keep the terribleness with the sebring (stratus et al) and 16 different kinds of the same crappy durango
|
We'll soon all be driving Fiat econoboxes, and bored to death.
|
omg if fiat comes over here I'm gonna cry

Wow, thats sad.

The Wrangler was always a niche 4x4 vehicle, but did bring allot of younger folks to the Jeep lifelong-loyal brand.
Jeep is the number one 4x4 vehicle in the Northeast, ahead of Subaru, but if they now miss their younger demographic introduction ..... It's not all about soccer moms in their Grand Cherokee Limited's. |
Have you checked the price of a Jeep Wrangler lately? My pops has owned a Jeep Wrangler consistently for the past 20+ years and his last purchase was his first used one because of the price gouging. I mean 30k for something that really has not changed all that much is just crazy.

Who says young people won't spend $30k on a vehicle, even an unchanged-in-years Wrangler? Arguably the best pure 4x4 on the market. Great off-road, but way too loud cabin for me on-road.
I'm not down on Fiat; I had a Spider way back when and loved it. But their current urban "econoboxes' as I deemed them leave a lot to be desired. |
I just checked Chrylser's line up ...
wow ... their web site still sucked. the line up is horrible. I wonder who could they even survived this long ? |
