Drove a G37 coupe. + & -'s

+'s

Styling, i loved the look from the outside, 19 inch wheels, certain angles it looks like a beast (especially in black.)

Engine, it is a big difference than the one G35 couple, more response to the pedal when you slam it.

Shifter, my god was it smooth, tighter gates than our 6 speed, plus the stock shift knob feels great through out. The shifter is lower too, gives it that race feel in my eyes, I have to say the trans/shifter is my favorite part of the car.

Interior, its an infiniti, leather was great, driver seat was in the perfect spot to access everything on the inside. The nav and radio were easy to understand, and the stock stereo is fantastic, but again its an infiniti so you would expect it.

-'s

Rear seats, they reminded me of my old trans am, 2 bucket seats with hardly any room for legs, feets, knees, ankles, or whatever you have in front of you.

Top rpm's, it seems to die off once you rev the engine, nearly all of the power you want is in the bottom. I guess they would design it this way for the main customers, daily drivers who stay below 4000 rpms most of the life of the car.

Gas mileage, it isn't as great as you think, yeah highway is ok, but city driving will burn its fair share, though i kinda expected it.

View out the windshield, it makes it feel like a boat. The hood just seems HUGE and its hard to predict and maneuver through a crowding parking lot or take a tight parking space. The seats are pretty low stock but the view is very "non driver friendly."

Overall, i really liked it, but around where I live they are a dime a dozen so I do not think I would get one. But I am excited to test out the new Z with this engine.

Nice write up. I always liked the exterior appearence of the G35/G37.

Nice review. I had a loaded '08 G35 sedan for a rental car a year ago and I agree about the "boat" thing but was surprised at how well the big sedan would keep it's composure on fast curves while still being really smooth and comfortable over rough roads. It had the paddle shifters but the 3.5 engine was kind of the same way being that their was no point in revving beyond 5k rpm or so but it didn't matter as it felt really fast none-the-less. I found that car definitely had more of an emphasis on luxury than sport but could handle what ever you threw at it and I threw a lot, it being a rental car and all.

I thrashed a g37s a little while ago. The torque was nice, I did NOT fit in the back seat, the clutch pedal had a total of 1/2" of travel and a very small catch point, which i didnt like. It was a nice ride at 100+mph in a city street (I had a fun salesman), and the brakes worked as well as the 8 when i saw a cop. We did a little handling tests in the large company parking lots, but it feels very boatlike after 2 years of the 8. I missed the fender flares for getting a feel of where your tires are at.

Overall, other than the clutch, i liked it, but wouldnt buy it, too much luxury, not enough feel.

Great read. yah i think the new G37 doesnt look as good as the G35. but when the test drove the G35, it felt like a tank or boat like said.

I would even like the extorior more if they kept to the original concept

Good review.

Yep the exterior is more ugly.

I just bought a G37 coupe a month ago.

Blows my RX8 away. Handling is the best in the RX8, but the G37 blows away the 8 in every other aspect. Interior technology=GREAT! Still dig the racing seats that my 8 has.

Looks can be ambiguous as one may prefer the sporty look over a more luxurious look, but I no longer get owned and I am classy while owning others. The G37 def. has more curves than the G35 and the stock silver spoiler looks great.

Torque is great. I mean, I don't drive twisties all day (I don't even live remotely close to a mountain) so it is fun to get the kick I never get with the 8.

Acceleration while moving beats anything I've driven so far.

I wonder what the 370z drives like.

but . . .

"Do you think the 370z will handles as good as the 09 RX-8?"

this made me laugh for some reason...

good write up. I looked at the G35's a couple years back and they were nice but I still preferred the 8... Haven't looked at the 37's yet but I'm sure they're nice. I'm more interested in testing out the 370z though.

playdoh43 02-24-2009 03:35 PM

to me the g37 engine is top heavy compared to say the 335 twin turbo, Theres good power on the bottom, but most of the power comes in the top range. you dont get all 330hp until 7000 rpm, and you dont get max torque until around 5200ish.

eitherway nice write up :)

Me too. That statement tickles me.

^^LOL, yea i laugh every time i hear someone say things like that. "Owning", what? did you mash the gas off a stop light and beat a Stang for 100 ft or something?? Please, only thing ur owning is your inferiority complex.

Nice write up on the G37. Is a cool luxury coupe fo sho, nice lines and cool stock wheels.

Personally , I didn't think to much of it when I saw it at the auto show a couple of weeks ago. The interior was nice , just a little crowded . Plus what they are asking for it , that really turn me off . I had looked at the 370 before the G37 and came out more impress with the 350 . I thouht it was a better bargain .

My 2 cents.........................
