does anyone else sit in thier car for five minutes while it warms up?
well, do you?
maybe like 30 seconds...
No.
I just ride it easy (try to stay under 4k RPM) until it warms up. |
nope. I Idle just long enough to find something good on the radio and off I go. I also stick below 4k RPM until the engine is warmed (just in time for the highway onramp :) )
30 seconds is all you need, beyond that is wasting gas. The only reason for a stationary warm-up is to allow oil pressure to get up to normal. Just drive reasonably until the engine reaches normal operating temperature.
my car shifts better if i let it idle for a few minutes. im running mt90 in the tranny.
generally, about 30 seconds and im off. i let the rpms drop from 2k to 1.5k. |
I just drive it easy until the engine hits normal temp, or about 5 mins. Unless it's in the winter at which point, I usually turn the car on and finish a 5 minute something before leaving.

nope. i just use my viper to start my car about 2-3 min before getting in and ride easy for another 2-3 min until it's heated up. :smileysho
idk why i used that smile..lol. |
nope, i redline in reverse out my drive way. then i redline thru 1st and 2nd gear thru my street. then i redline it down the hwy while the engine is cold.
bad alfy! :spank: haha
Really? normally i flip my switch, see i have it set up to spray liquid nitrogen directly into the throttle body. i figured if a cai works to increase hp then a freezing air intake should add more right?
I redline 7th gear.... Dunno what ya'll are talkin about.
Does anyone sit in their car for 5 mins while it warms up and play with themselves ?
Well ........ do you ? |

Never, but I do keep it under 5k til it warms up.
I'll give my car a few minutes to warm-up if its really cold, and then I keep it below 4k rpm's until she's warm. She doesn't shift super smooth when shes really cold.

...maybe not quite 5 min., but a good 2-3.5 :eyetwitch. And if it's super cold outside, yeah I'll sit there for about 5 min. I do it religiously...yeah, i'm sure it's a bit overkill..but this is the nicest car i've ever owned and I baby the crap out if it...unit it's warm...after that...GAME ON..MUUUHUUUWHAAAAAAA :FIREdevil
i wait till its warmed up all the way, i noticed that i save on gas when i do that. plus its less stress on the rotars when their fully warmed up.
At warm idle, my oil pressure is 25psi.
On a cold start, it is 75 psi - hardly any flow reaching bearings and oil filter fully bypassed. Not ideal for any engine, I let it warm till the pressure eases to about 60......... |
Remote starter.... and no beacuse the seats are cold too or hot in the summer,,,,
I like to warm it up in the winter just incase I need to open it up to get away from an * hole
aftermarket gauges are a real eye opener |
Wait, warm up? Do you mean stretch your legs or something. Do you guys not all just push your places to show it off?
LOL...i've done it every time i've sat in my car
Ill sit in it for a min or two until it hits the 2 big notch on the heat meter. A few more if its freezing, I just got it though so I'm sure that will get old real fast. I think the big deal about the heat is to let it warm all the way up before you turn it off again... or at least thats what the guy who sold it to me said.
Usually open the garage door and start my car at the same time, about 5-10 minutes before I leave in the morning. Makes it easier.
No, I sit in the house slamming coffee for 5 minutes while the car warms up.
Emphatically No! I get in the car and drive...just not like a crazy person...driving is the best way to warm up the car --- under a bit of load.
I live in Florida....
Most of the time I start it and go back inside to finish getting ready, when I come back out, my cats are outside gasping for air and I am ready to go. |
idle for a while until my idle goes to approx 1,250 then i go and keep it under 4k until the engine warms up :D if i'm in a hurry i just go and keep it under 4k...
