does anyone else sit in thier car for five minutes while it warms up?

well, do you?

HWK11 04-02-2009 08:24 PM

maybe like 30 seconds...

Jon316G 04-02-2009 08:28 PM

No.
I just ride it easy (try to stay under 4k RPM) until it warms up.

Socket7 04-02-2009 08:28 PM

nope. I Idle just long enough to find something good on the radio and off I go. I also stick below 4k RPM until the engine is warmed (just in time for the highway onramp :) )

DAC17 04-02-2009 08:29 PM

30 seconds is all you need, beyond that is wasting gas. The only reason for a stationary warm-up is to allow oil pressure to get up to normal. Just drive reasonably until the engine reaches normal operating temperature.

kersh4w 04-02-2009 08:52 PM

my car shifts better if i let it idle for a few minutes. im running mt90 in the tranny.

generally, about 30 seconds and im off. i let the rpms drop from 2k to 1.5k.

Transam kid 01 04-02-2009 09:09 PM

I just drive it easy until the engine hits normal temp, or about 5 mins. Unless it's in the winter at which point, I usually turn the car on and finish a 5 minute something before leaving.

im sittin in the same situation.........literally

getdamafiaonyou 04-02-2009 09:43 PM

nope. i just use my viper to start my car about 2-3 min before getting in and ride easy for another 2-3 min until it's heated up. :smileysho

idk why i used that smile..lol.

alfy28 04-02-2009 09:44 PM

nope, i redline in reverse out my drive way. then i redline thru 1st and 2nd gear thru my street. then i redline it down the hwy while the engine is cold.

HockeyRX-8 04-02-2009 09:52 PM

bad alfy! :spank: haha

getdamafiaonyou 04-02-2009 09:53 PM

Really? normally i flip my switch, see i have it set up to spray liquid nitrogen directly into the throttle body. i figured if a cai works to increase hp then a freezing air intake should add more right?

shazy 04-02-2009 10:08 PM

I redline 7th gear.... Dunno what ya'll are talkin about.

Brettus 04-02-2009 10:12 PM

Do it all the time. It's great cuz it leaves time for a 4 minute nap.

1 minute fap, 4 minute nap... I'll have to try that. :)

AJ's Shinka 04-03-2009 04:32 AM

Never, but I do keep it under 5k til it warms up.

Sheehan 04-03-2009 08:25 AM

I'll give my car a few minutes to warm-up if its really cold, and then I keep it below 4k rpm's until she's warm. She doesn't shift super smooth when shes really cold.

lol

ATL-GP 04-03-2009 11:19 AM

...maybe not quite 5 min., but a good 2-3.5 :eyetwitch. And if it's super cold outside, yeah I'll sit there for about 5 min. I do it religiously...yeah, i'm sure it's a bit overkill..but this is the nicest car i've ever owned and I baby the crap out if it...unit it's warm...after that...GAME ON..MUUUHUUUWHAAAAAAA :FIREdevil

J03K1LLARX8 04-03-2009 11:25 AM

i wait till its warmed up all the way, i noticed that i save on gas when i do that. plus its less stress on the rotars when their fully warmed up.

StealthTL 04-03-2009 11:36 AM

At warm idle, my oil pressure is 25psi.

On a cold start, it is 75 psi - hardly any flow reaching bearings and oil filter fully bypassed. Not ideal for any engine, I let it warm till the pressure eases to about 60.........

Rotr8 04-03-2009 11:38 AM

Remote starter.... and no beacuse the seats are cold too or hot in the summer,,,,

darnellm 04-03-2009 11:39 AM

I like to warm it up in the winter just incase I need to open it up to get away from an * hole
aftermarket gauges are a real eye opener

CyberPitz 04-03-2009 12:38 PM

Wait, warm up? Do you mean stretch your legs or something. Do you guys not all just push your places to show it off?

9huyna1 04-08-2009 01:41 AM

LOL...i've done it every time i've sat in my car

Burton 04-08-2009 02:36 PM

Ill sit in it for a min or two until it hits the 2 big notch on the heat meter. A few more if its freezing, I just got it though so I'm sure that will get old real fast. I think the big deal about the heat is to let it warm all the way up before you turn it off again... or at least thats what the guy who sold it to me said.

RshnRoket 04-10-2009 05:49 AM

Usually open the garage door and start my car at the same time, about 5-10 minutes before I leave in the morning. Makes it easier.

JRichter 04-10-2009 05:22 PM

No, I sit in the house slamming coffee for 5 minutes while the car warms up.

Spin9k 04-10-2009 05:33 PM

Emphatically No! I get in the car and drive...just not like a crazy person...driving is the best way to warm up the car --- under a bit of load.

Rote8 04-11-2009 05:40 AM

I live in Florida....
Most of the time I start it and go back inside to finish getting ready, when I come back out, my cats are outside gasping for air and I am ready to go.

Maffu313 04-15-2009 12:56 PM

idle for a while until my idle goes to approx 1,250 then i go and keep it under 4k until the engine warms up :D if i'm in a hurry i just go and keep it under 4k...
