Documentation Fee

I was at a dealership not too long ago looking to buy a new car (2011 Fiesta). I sat down with the dealer and asked for a out-the-door price. He came back with a breakdown of the pricing. There is a "Doc Fee" for $599.50. I read about this fee and found out it is just a way for dealers to make extra money. My brother just bought a 2010 Lancer for 20k and the doc fee was $67. There is no limit on this fee for florida, so im wondering if I should find another dealer or attempt to haggle the doc fee down? Any ideas?

Ask why there is a 600 dollar documentation fee, when you went to another dealer and theirs was 67.

Yep. Try talking to them about it and why it is so high. People aren't so high and mighty when you confront them about their stupidity.

Lunacy..................this is honest to god what I do.
I do all my research first, decide exactly what I will pay for the vehicle "out the door" and I mean out the door.....tax, tag, title............every last F'ing item.
I give them that price and kindly explain that if it moves one penny(for any reason), I will walk out the door, and am not going to sit around while they play the back and forth to the Sales Managers office game.
I tell them you can go talk to him ONE TIME and come back with one of two possible answers...."yes, or no" that's it.

Funny............on one ocassion(buying a car for my daughter), after what I said above, the sales manager comes out and says okay, we have a deal, then shakes my hand. Then he proceeds to up the price and says "Well, I though we would just be human beings about this". I look at my daughter(sort of confirmation that I just heard what I thought I heard), then I looked back at him say "excuse me?", I swear I almost decked him, but I just got up and walked out. Of course they came running after me as we were getting in our car, and I just told them............."You have to be f&^*ing kidding me asshole".

For the record...........I am polite, cordial, and even friendly, but it's a business transaction. I do let them make money off of me, I'm not a cheapskate, but I WILL NOT let them make thousands of dollars off of me. I look at it this way, they can make some money and get me out of their quickly and move on, or have no sale at all.
