do i need new tires @ 7200 miles?

As stated in the subject i have 7200 miles on my 06 8. I have noticed a rougher and rougher ride, and the only place "off road" i've been is up a gravel driveway. I wouldnt think that would hurt them. I do drive over an area where there are lots of patches on the roads daily, would that cause this problem? I hope not.

I have read where alot of people have put new tires on their 8's. Are they faulty, or just cheaply made.

Lemme guess, Potenza's? haha

The general consensus on these tires is they grip great in the dry, decent in the wet, and after some miles, start to get noisy. I have 15,000 on mine, wearing fine, just noisy. Probably can get 25,000 maybe even 30,000 miles on them.

If you look the the tread blocks, you can see they wear unevenly. Its called 'cupping'. The leading edge of one tread block does not match the height of the trailing edge of the next tread block, causing all the racket.

Lots of threads on this. Some RX8's had Dunlops stock. Those guys dont complain about noise at all. You can get those as replacements, but they are pricey.

Popular replacements are Kumho SPT's (cheap but great). Check out Tire Rack for some reviews.

thanks.....actually I have Dunlops. I have a Shinka so I thought I should have good tires. Thats why I was concerned.

miketyson8mykids seems to to have tire feathering, its a common problem with potenzas due to how soft they are, tons of 350Zs have them.

you are pretty vague in describing your problem, you should provide more info for a better diagnosis

The information I provided was a seemingly rougher and rougher ride. Thats the only problem, whether Im on smooth roadways or rough ones. I seem to feel every little bump, where she was very smooth in the beginning. I am assuming its tires, I do not know. I would think shocks and or struts could handle more than the driving conditions that I have describled in my original post, especially considering the mileage on the car. Thats why I didnt ask about them to begin with. I hope this helps, and I appreciate all advice.

maybe it has to do with the amount of air in your tires and the temperature? when theres more air in the tires, the ride quality becomes significantly stiffer, have you started experiencing this after filling up your tires with a lot of air?

its wierd because tire going bad due to wear usually result in a more slippery ride, i dont think a rougher ride is usually the result of tire deterioration, but more related to shocks.

I'd guess something related to the air pressure.

Did it get worse after rotation of the tires? Check your tire pressure, it should be 32psi.

Thanks Playdoh, I just had my car serviced, and I watched the tech refill the tires. I havent checked them myself. I will do that.

thank you too Old Rotor.

Jeffy lube filled my tires to 50psi! i bitched at the manager who told be "more is better"...lol

rddragoness 10-30-2006 01:29 AM

OMG...hey thats better than putting on 4 brand new tires and not tightening the lugs...Sears did that on another car. I got a full refund on four brand new low profiles for an old celica gts that I had, about $800. I was on my way to pick up my son after I left there. I didnt get but about 4 ft before I realised it. They allowed me to drive it out of the shop, thank god, otherwise I might have gotten farther or into traffic, before I realised it.

That manager needs to be fired!!!!!!
