CX-9 Oil Change
 

Hey guys. Sorry if this may be off topic. I just bought a 2008 CX-9 about 3 months ago and wanted to do an oil change yesterday. I got under the car and found the drain plug for it.

But, I had no luck getting it off because it was STUCK on there or maybe over-torqued. I then posted a pic of what I thought was the drain plug to the mazdas247 CX-9 forum to see if maybe I was getting at the wrong plug. A guy on there said it was the wrong place!

I've gotten a LOT of good answers from this forum about my RX-8 and was wondering if I could get the same for my CX-9.

Can someone either verify this is where the oil pan and plug on a CX-9 are or send me a pic if they have one?? Thanks so much!

Looks about right, you sure its 15mm though? I thought mazda used 17mm on their CX line, could be wrong though. Have you tried soaking the plug in some WD40 or liquid wrench?

it's 15 mm. you may just need a bit more torque/longer handle. there is no crush washer to replace it has a thick rubber washer. if you still cant get it mazda dealers are doing oil changes for like 28-30 bucks...

Just use a "breaker bar", available at most any automotive supply outfit (Autozone and the like). The 18" one is plenty and will also come in handy for transmission/differential drain/fill nuts. Alternatively you can give the end of your socket wrench a sharp tap with a ball peen hammer (aka, "the persuader"). The typical root cause these days is the dissimilar metals.

I just changed my daughter's Mazda 6 oil this weekend and had to resort to same (even tho' I didn't particularly over-tighten it the last time).
