Confirmed: Rotary Debut in Tokyo!

But not exactly what most of you are thinking or hoping for but something i think is really cool any way (RG will not be happy;))

Mazda will be showing a new version of the Mazda5 hybrid/hydrogen rotary powered vehicle at this years Tokyo Motor show. besides the much greener version of the Rotary the Mazda5 will also be using the industries first all plant derived bio fabric seats and also will use bioplastics for the interior trims like the dashboard.

The biofabric/bioplastic/hybrid/hydrogen Mazda5 is production ready and will begin leasing in 2008.

Interesting. I assume this will be a FWD rotary vehicle then. Good for Mazda for continuing to develop the hydrogen rotary! I just hope that's not the only rotary we see in Tokyo...

I've always been fascinated by this vehicle and I'm always googling trying to see good underhood images of it, especially with the plastic cover removed.

dynamho 09-13-2007 11:53 AM

^ Me too. I can't seem to take my eyes off them whenever I see them. They're so pleasant in concept, especially for an urbanite.

Off topic, but it's a minivan shootout!

RoXanneBlack8 09-15-2007 01:20 PM

any info on the trans? is it an auto? a manual? did they do any type of modifying to get it to bolt to the rotary or did it all line up...?

robrecht 09-15-2007 02:05 PM

Zoom, any more info? Now for my ignorant question: Is this hydrogen & electric in the sense of a hydrogen fuel cell? Or hydrogen fuel like the previous hydrogen RX-8?

This is what I'm waiting for from Mazda. I have heard from a great sorce about this and I will sit and wait. Car will be payed off and I'll be ready for some more zoom!

Automatic transmissions. Mazda will introduce a new automatic transmission with improved fuel efficiency and performance comparable to that of a manual transmission toward the start of the decade beginning in 2010.

Rotary engines. Mazda will introduce a new generation gasoline rotary engine with enhanced power and fuel efficiency toward the start of the decade beginning in 2010.

rotary crazy 09-18-2007 02:19 PM

http://rotarynews.com/node/view/947

Gotian 09-18-2007 02:27 PM

so then it is the end for this generation rx-8 and we will get a second rx-8 this winter according to that article that rotary crazy put?

BTW that is pretty cool about the mazda 5 but shouldnt they change the name from mazda 5 to RX-V?

rotary crazy 09-18-2007 02:58 PM

its only a facelift, like the FC s4 and s5

Gotian 09-18-2007 03:08 PM

Aw thats a bummer, kinda, cause i liked the idea of a new rx-8 but i was still hoping for the date of 2010-2011 cause that is when my 8 will be paid off (or almost paid off)

for that date we have a 70% chance we will see a new rotary car, and things are looking like its going to be an rx-7 type car (dont know about the name)

Jedi54 09-18-2007 03:16 PM

I don't think they'll show the "new 7" at SS X. If anything, they'll sneak in the facelifted RX-8

if you look at the article on rotarynews.com , the pictures of the new RX-7 are named rx7_2011 :D:
