clear bra questions

has anyone here ever had a clear bra put on the 8 soon after a repaint? If so, has it affected the paint in anyway? I heard that we're suppose to wait at least 3 weeks for the paint to cure before putting on a clear bra.

Thanks in advance,
Danny

Danny, this was one of the questions I asked when I inquired about the clear bra. I was told one should wait at least 3-4 months after painting to apply the clear bra.

I also ran across a similar quote on another website. I'll see if I can find it again.

Months?!?!?!? WOW.... you can get plenty of paint chips in that span of time

tiggerlee 03-31-2006 02:46 PM

^yeah that was my initial thought too. I think it really depends on the paint and surfaces as to the curing time.

I was told 3 weeks by aeroshield (now called aerotect). I don't know how long I can wait. In a month with my front I already had hundreds of chips.

Well of course now I can't find the original quote but here's what 3M says.

Question:

Will the paint smear if Scotchgard™ Paint Protection Film is applied over a newly painted vehicle?
Answer:

The paint on a newly painted vehicle must be cured according to manufacturer's recommendations. Your body shop should be able to provide you with this information.

Yeah I know, not much help.

I guess I will store my auto bahn front away for now then. BAHHHH. my car looks so unproportional with "high" stock front and "low" sides and rear.

Thanks for all your help tiggerlee. :)

Or just buy a daily driver???

Now that the weather is getting nice, I really want a sport bike.

I don't remember who but "olddragger" or "eyeball fixer" I think has had the clear bra installed already. They might be able to answer more of your questions better than I could. I still haven't decided if I should to get it put on mine yet or not.

Ok so I was off a little. :Eyecrazy:

It was actually "glassetcher" here. In this thread.

thanks guys. can't get a daily driver...cuz i'm 18 and don't have money for another car.

I just got my front back from repaint, but I'm now willing to wait 3 weeks. Much less of a hassle that continuously getting it repainted every 3 months.
