Clarkson on the NEW MX-5..

"Everything about the new MX-5 is perfectly judged so that what you end up with is a slightly more practical, slightly better looking version of something you loved anyway"

Again he has to add "This is the kind of gay I adore", to his starting drivvel...,why does he always have to have "GAY" in every bloody MAZDA test....?

IMO He really is a F..K Head, funny at times though...

He gives the MX-5 ....4 out of 5

BlueEyes 02-06-2006 01:25 PM

They're pretty gay looking little cars.

rotarygod 02-06-2006 01:30 PM

You mean that as "happy" right? (Hint: You'd better mean happy!)

ASH8 02-06-2006 01:34 PM

Remember his closing comment on our RX-8.....

"There is, however, an upside to this. People will be so busy examining the curved front, the striking back and the endless detailing, to notice the driver’s a poof. "

He also gave the RX-8 4/5 stars....Is there a connection/mating here? :shocking:

ms292399 02-06-2006 01:36 PM

^^^ whats a "poof"?

NgoRX8 02-06-2006 01:41 PM

You don't know???????

Its the English/Australian saying/slang (offensive to some) for a gay male...you know...homosexual....I can't believe I had to tell you that...

ms292399 02-06-2006 01:43 PM

thats what i figured, but i didnt want to assume anything

"they haven’t evolved the old version so much as sent it to the gym. It now looks like it means business, like it might be more of a “serious” sports car. A rival perhaps for the more grown-up, more heterosexual Honda S2000"

he pretty much means .. gay .. agreed

i dont think he called the rx8 gay though .. so it's not a mazda theme

That is awesome. In 2nd grade, when we'd do "reading time" we all sat on this gigantic bean bag type thing that was called "the poof". Only now do I realize that we were sitting on a giant gay man.

raspyrx7 02-06-2006 03:31 PM

aww man I was expecting a pic of Kelly Clarkson posing on a new Miata... sheesh

portero23 02-06-2006 03:53 PM

Isn't it time yet to start losing the usage of negative gay stereotypes? And don't give me crap about how I need to lighten up and the whole bit about "said with a twinkle in his eye." I think we stopped seeing usage of most racial slurs and gender stereotypes in any semblance of a respectable publication a long long time ago. Am I the only chauvinistically female-obsessed straight guy who cringes when they come across these things in our so-called modern society?

No your not mate, I totally, totally agree with you.

Its about time "dick heads" like Clarkson act his age, and grow up.

Anyway, enough of this subject matter, how about the new MX-5, I would drive/own one any day.

Ike 02-06-2006 05:04 PM

"Happy" people love their Miatas! ;)

RotrDoc 02-06-2006 05:32 PM

Verdict: Hairdressing just got butch.

Man, "drivel" is sure the operative word here. I had to scan through a thousand words of nonsense before getting to anything even resembling an auto review.

That's Clarkson's "style." You can generally skip the first page entirely and not miss anything at all.

In one of the 3 or 4 JDM "new car" mags I was reading, it mentioned a retractable hardtop miata... made with particularly the US market in mind (even had a pic).

I bet with that... besides making the car heavier and slower... you'll lose most of your trunk. The Solstice/Sky is looking even better... especially in the GXP/Red line versions.

LionZoo 02-06-2006 09:04 PM

If you're worried about trunk space, why do you need to get the hardtop version? Just settle for the softtop and everything should be fine. Besides, even with the folding hardtop I'm willing to bet the MX-5 would still be significantly lighter than the Solstice. If trunk was your first concern, well, have you seen the "trunk" in the Solstice?

Japan8 02-06-2006 10:25 PM

No the opposite was my point. The Miata will both be heavier and also lose it's trunk "advantage" that some would say it has.

I'd buy neither, because I don't like 2 seater cars and I particularly don't care to own a convertible (MAYBE a retractable hardtop). So none of this is an issue for me... just academic discussion.

LionZoo 02-06-2006 11:43 PM

On the otherhand, the hardtop would be a distinct trump card as people who normally would not consider owning a convertible due to the softtop might end up buying it.

BunnyGirl 02-06-2006 11:51 PM

A retracting hard top is certainly better than the previous hard tops where you have to lift it off the car and figure out where you are going ot put it, which would certainly be a hassle storage wise, especially if you don't have a garage.

You can always add the optional factory removable/coloured hardtop :)
