choice on a new car?
 

Just wondering what you guys think would be a choice for a more economical car? I'm still keeping the 8, it's just that I drive about over 100 miles a day, and i'm filling up on gas almost every two days. My choice so far for a car is the Toyota Yaris, but i'm sure my friends will laugh at me because i'm kind of a big guy, or the Honda Fit, witch in my opinon looks better, or Scion XB. Now keep in mind that I need trunk space because I haul stuff all the time, and I hate hybrid cars. The only reason I would get the Yaris is because its only 10k vs. the other cars. I'm sure with buying one of these cars, I will save more money on car payment then what it cost to fill up the 8 every two days :eek: Did I miss any other car choice that you guys can recomend? Thanks for your imput guys.

I would go with the XB. Made by toyota it is eco friendly and reliable. The XB has some serious room inside!(head room too for big guys) I would be the least embarrased to drive that 1 of the 3...

Scion XA gets pretty good miles, but the XB has the "space" you may need. The CHEVY AVEO is similar. Really depnds on what compromise youre willing on making.
1) Looks/Coolness, you should already get this with the 8
2) Size & cargo space
3) gas mileage

Each takes away from the others. But if the original impetus for a new car is gas mileage, then you'd have to get a Hybrid. Sucks, I know, but they are the best in that category. The Honda Insight gets near 70mpg. The Toyota Prius (Hippie Mobile) is pretty good and has 4 doors and a good cargo area, but is rather expesnisive for what it is--Hippie Mobile.

I was thinking about getting a cute little Yaris, myself. Just a bone-stock, base model that I know is reliable, good on gas, and is not trying to be something it is not. If i cub the rims, oh well; If I hop a curb, oh well; if I get a scratch in the paint...

Then I thought about it and would rather spend $10K, either, on my 8 or towards another bike. The choice is yours--just remember, in a second car the reason for getting another car should trump all preexisting categories in evaluating a vehicle (e.g. looks, stereo, etc).

are you heading more towards a tad sporty or a straight eco car choice??? sporty i'd say a scion TC (about 17K out the door) but for a eco you can find a base model civic for close to 14K.

or buy a used late 90's civic or accord for 5K, if its well cared for you'll keep it well over 200,000 miles.

Ya know, if you're looking at those super compact things with tons of space, I just saw a Nissan Versa hatch today and it's really not bad looking for one of those cars. The front end leaves a bit to be desired, but the tail is rather sharp. Not sure I'd drive one myself, but in its class, I'd say it's one of the better choices.

Aaand...in doing a GIS for "Nissan Versa" I found out that you can modify them to look quite cool and aggressive, actually. Innnnteresting.

Honda FIT in US (JAZZ ) Here dowunder great car very economical , versatile in its seating and carrying capacity .

My wife has the VTIS 1.5 LTR SEVEN SPEED PADDLE SHIFTER AUTO its a great little car .

If I remember correctly the xB is being discontinued after the 07 year. I believe the tC is the only of the 3 to stay for sale while 2 new models emerge (1 is likely to be styled a la xB becase it has the scion image attached)

You'll have to fill the other car you buy up with gas too, and it will probably only save you 1-2 grand a year in gas. You'll pay more than that for the new car and be stuck driving a POS around most of the time.

it'll take a helluva long time to break even in this venture. if you're going to buy another car, sell the 8. otherwise it is a waste of time & money. oh yeah, & happiness.

The XB is, actually, comming strong in 07. Its going to have a street package, I'm not sure the exact term they use. The concept has 20" rims, Brembo Brakes, a cool black cherry (ala Shinka) paint job, configurable rear seats (ala Element) & more power. They said the rims may get smaller and brakes down played for the production. Check it out on the site. Not a bad car for $13k. I considered one, myself but they're real common here in the Bay Area.

You know what? I think I saw that thing about the XB on youtube or something...

get a used corolla, like an 03 or something, it has space, and you'll get it pretty cheap. My gf had one for a few months and got in the high 30's in mpg

I recently (well, over the summer), had to replace my dying little '91 Toyota pickup, so I replaced it with... don't laugh... An '07 Yaris hatchback. It's not a bad little car. I got the "power package" which (sadly) doesn't add engine power, but did add power windows, locks, upgraded stereo, etc... It's not fast, it's not sexy, but I've never gotten under 32mpg since I've owned it (36mpg was max so far), I don't expect to ever have to do much to it (like my old truck), and I don't mind leaving it at the train station overnight as I always do. Not a bad little car for around $14K.

Get a used TDI Jetta.

I was going to say get a 1 or 2 year old used car too. The deisel will get you 50 mpg but you'll have the typical Volkswagen electrical problems so if you're not a fan of the Grrrmans get a civic or corolla. You'll get 35-40 mpg and get them for much less than a new hybrid anything. Plus they're proven reliable autos.

Honda civic or toyota corrola. They get almost the same mileage as the fit and yaris. But you get a bigger engine that can actually handle hills. Here in socal where we have a ton of hills, the fit and yaris actually get WORSE MPG because they have to work too hard to get up the hills.
My $.02

Toyota Camry. The 4 cylinder gets crazy gas mileage. The base camry also comes with options like radio controls on steering wheel and power drivers seat.

A used Toyota anything is good.

If you're looking into new cars, Fit and Versa would be my choices, no Yaris, its a little small and girly IMO. Above would be my choices to go for gas mileage alone. However if you want something a little better with decent mileage, I would get a Mazda3 sport or base impreza sedan/wagon. Quite a price jump btw...

Or take a serious look at the used cars market.

I don't understand how i'll be paying more for that if the i'm filling up on gas every two day. Each tank cost me around 35-38 dollars. With the 8 i'm only getting 16 mpg, and it's really hard to drive it easy when you have such a fun car. My payments for a 10-14K dollar car would be really low, or hell I can just pay for it in full. If I save around 1 or 2k a year like blueeyes says, aint that worth it for you? it's just my opinon, don't take it the wrong way, and if you can prove that it would be best for me to keep the car please tell me why. Any imput would be great so I can make up my mind.

put together a spreadsheet, and start adding up monthly expenses (car note, gas, insurance, mods lol) against an estimated monthly miles driven.

I actually did this a while back, pretending to buy a $12k Ford Focus as daily driver. And after all the numbers are crunched, for my situation at least, I ended up paying MORE per month if I bought the Focus, and that's including all the gas savings I made by driving the Focus 90% of the time in a month.

the only way (for me at least) to see any REAL savings from getting a 2nd car that is fuel efficient, is finding a car that I can pay cash for, then I do see monthly savings in gas money.
