Hi Charles, sounds like you will be having loads of fun in your shop truck. Hey I am not knocking the engineering prowess of the new Ford GT. I just can't lust after a car I can't even fit in. I had the opportunity years ago at the NYC auto show to sit in the last version of the Ford GT (press member perks), and I could actually fit in it. For all I have read and the pix out of the cramped interior of this one, I would not fit. I guess I will have to visit you in Arizona to get a taste of this powerful engine in your hands.
A story many years ago. As the Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper's main staff photographer covering auto racing , I became close to the Andretti family, covering them for years on the track and being a guest in their homes, and family camp in the Poconos. Back when the Nazareth Pa. track was still part of IndyCar racing (The Andrettis were part track owners) , I drove my modded 400 hp RX7 (Racing Beat built) up to cover the few days surrounding the race and the race itself. Mario was intrigued by my car (press parking was inside the fences, and I could show Mario my car) ,and I invited him to take a spin driving in it with me along on some of the area roads. A real thrill for me.
Then in turn Mario offered me a chance to take a very short drive in his Lamborghini Countach which he had brought to the track from their nearby Nazareth Pa. home. I honestly could not fit behind the wheel. I am 6 ft 4 1/2 inches and a big bodied guy. Mario had a big laugh. In the race Mario finished higher than Michael. Don't remember who won, maybe Danny Sullivan.
