Can't Find Oil!! OIL OIL OIL

Has anyone had any problems with finding 5w-20 non-synthetic oil? I went to 3 different autozones and finally found Havoline 5w-20. is that a good brand? It doesnt say non-synthetic on the bottle but the clerk said it was...... I've had my 8 for about a month only 670miles on it and the oil is down to the half way mark is it time to add oil???? :Wconfused

That should be fine. Typically it will specify that it is synthetic rather than say it's not. Also the price for synthetic oil is much higher so if it was about the same price as all the others you're probably fine. Also you can probably look up the oil you bought on the Havoline website. I prefer penzoil but a lot of people on the forum use castrol. Check around and search and you'll find some discussions. Also I would pick up a case of 5-20 once you find a place so you always have some.

I put in a quart of oil about every 1000 miles. The burn rate will depend on how hard you drive. The difference between the bottom mark on the dipstick and top mark is 1 quart. Check the owners manual and it will explain.

Also I noticed you're in NY. During the cold weather you may see this brown sludge on the dipstick. It's normal, search the forum and you'll see other threads on it.

Welcome and enjoy your new 8!

as long as it is stock you should be ok with any 5-20 oil any major brand in the summer you should use a 10-30 becuase of the heat holds up a little more

I gave up - cannot find anywhere here... put 5W-40 synthetic

Btw does anyone know what is the ILSAC vs. ACEA (Europe) classification of oils ?

Why didn't you just use the Havoline? It's good oil.

Havoline
Valvoline
Castrol GTX
Lots of others available.

There are plenty of good non-synthetic oils out there. You shouldn't be having any problem finding oil.

Castrol GTX 5w-20 - pick up a big ole tub of it at Walmart for ~$9.

EDIT: I think it has to indicate that it is synthetic; therefore if it doesn't say Synth. it is dino.

Castrol GTX 5W-20 Dino Juice from Autozone. They always have it.

They also have Motorcraft (Ford brand), which is what my Mazda Dealer uses.

yeah im going to use the Havoline since i have a quart. but i think next time im going to buy a case of Castrol GTX seems like alot of people use that.

Chemically Castrol and Havoline are very close to each other. I wish I could remember what it was but both of them stand out from the rest. I just forgot in what way. They are both good and you'll have no issues with either. I can tell you that I refuse to use Valvoline on the grounds that it is named after an engine part that we don't have!
