No, it's sailing straight off into a tree at the first bend that gives you the whiplash...

One is a muscle car, one is a nimble coupe, unbeatable in the twisties - choose on that basis!

I had an rx8 and traded for a C6. Both cars are great but are very different. The C6 will out perform the 8 in every way but thats why there is a 15,000 to 20,000 difference in price. I think that they are the best cars in their perspective price range but the C6 is a big step up. :)

That's just ignorant. A Vette is not a Mustang. Vettes corner very well, are fairly light weight, and probably the best value you can get for a near super car.

Tough question, if it were me, I would work on the 8 and get something truly unique, I am too attached to it and it is not everywhere like the vette.

You could buy the vette...but your penis will shrink. :D

*ahem* Lotus Elise. :D

*ahem* Lotus Elise.
I don't recall the Elise having nearly as much power on tap as the Vette and IIRC the price was similar (might be mistaken as I thought they were ugly and didn't bother to research them further).

I've always wanted a Stingray and still admire the Vettes to this day.

Luftwaffle 12-15-2004 09:43 AM

It may not be a conventional supercar, but it can run with cars that cost 2 or 3 times more than it. It's 38k, a Corvette is 43k. The Elise is cheaper and faster. It doesn't have the horses, but it's about 1300 pounds lighter. :D

MTCD01 12-15-2004 10:17 AM

Luftwaffle - What is the top end on the Elise (top speed)? Is that the base production model or the racing (no idea what they actually called it) package? Seems like a good deal for the money especially if it's near Vette performance (0-60, 0-100, skidpad, slalom.

I'd still prefer the Vette. Indeed if money was not a factor I'd want something even better...Diablo or maybe a F50 (No idea where I would drive either of those cars nor would I ever be able to park them anywhere).

Top speed is up around 147MPH I think. 0-60 is 4.9s. 0-100 is 13.2. I couldn't find skidpad or slalom numbers, trustworthy numbers at least...

Oh yeah, the Top Gear times, while not dead on, are a reasonably accurate gauge on a car's performance. The Lotus got just about the same time as the C6, but the Lotus test was done on a wet track.

I've wanted a vette since I was a little kid. But, dollar for dollar, I think the Elise gets the best bang. :D

If I didn't need a four-seater, I'd have a C5 right now. :)

I really think the Vette is a wonderful car, but I have been plagued in that whenever I find myself admiring one, I seem to always tell myself "too bad it probably rattles like a bucket of bolts". Is that an outdated conception anymore? It used to be that they would pick up rattles all over the place - a serious detraction from an otherwise beautiful piece of rolling artwork (in the classical sense as well as well as romantic). Can we come to a general concensus on that here? Thanks for all honest and unbiased replies. ;)

but compared to the Elise the Vette becomes a "practical" car :)

Cool, ain't it? :D

Over the Elise, a C6 actually gives you trunk space. Honestly, I don't know what I'd take given that amount of money. I like what the Elise was made for, but I like the C6's look much, much better. Both are pretty comparable.

the C6 will outhandle our 8 in a heartbeat, and on top of that blast away in the straightaways...old corvettes were simply 'muscle cars' the C5 and now the C6 are actually serious sports cars, competitive with porsche 911s for thousands less, and all you had to deal with was plastic interiors. Totally different league, if you think you can hang with a C6 in the twistied im afraid you are going be falling behind.

The C6 has the coolest doorhandles I've ever touched. :D
