lighter for sure... that guy videotaping in the enzo added even more weight to the car.

Is it just me or is the Enzo shifting really early?
and true, that SLK might be light compared to the normal SLR, but the Enzo is quite light... ~3000lb curb weight? I highly doubt even a normal SLK is that light. That SLK had to have been tuned.

^ A stock SLK280 is 3,209lbs with a manual trans. The SLR engine is rated at 617hp.

I'm guessing the video is from Dubai... The chances of the SLK having a stock SLR engine swapped into it is slim to none, it mosr certainly has some mods done to it. It's crazy what people do with cars in the UAA. When I was at AMS getting my car tuned they have pins in a map showing all the big turbo Evos they have built or supplied kits for around the world.
Dubai has about 20 pins in it...


They call up a dealer in the US, buy an Evo, get it shipped to AMS, AMS builds them a 600-900whp car and off to Dubai it goes. Then that Evo goes an whoops up on the guys with the exotics in the local street races.

The same guy owns both cars and yes it is over there somewhere. Dubai, UAE, I can't remember. The owner had an SLR but felt it was too big of a car for the congested city streets there. He decided that an SLK was easier to drive around in traffic so he butchered his SLR and put then engine in the SLK. If he has so much traffic, why does he need so much power? I personally think he should have fabbed up a new hood to fit everything under it instead of cutting holes in it where you can see everything. At least it's vented though!

The SLR isn't much slower than the Enzo. They are close with the Enzo being slightly faster. The SLK weighs much less than the SLR which is why it is faster with the same engine.

I'd still take an exotic over an average mainstream car with a big turbo anyday. Anyone can do that. That's not even news worthy. That's like hearing about thousand horsepower Supras. Yawn. Old boring news. Not everyone can afford an exotic though. Its not only about speed. It's about prestige and that's something an exotic will always have over other mainstream cars that are merely fast.

It makes me sick to see these guys gouge the rest of the world on oil which they get billions off of and worse yet the fact that they don't even deserve these cars since they can't appreciate them. Kind of like rappers and sports stars that only buy cars for bling factor. I like these cars and think it's cool to see someone do such a radical conversion. I just wish it was someone more down to earth and appreciative who did it.

Never said a stock SLK isn't "light". I just don't think it's lighter than an enzo.

Actually, I posted that info because I was surprised to see the SLK280 was 3,200lbs.....I would have expected it to be less. I would agree, the Enzo at 3,000lbs and 660hp gets beat that bad by an SLK at 3,200lb with 615hp???....I don't think so. Either the Enzo driver was driving like a bitch or the SLK is tuned to much more then 615hp.

you guys are forgetting about torque!

The ferrari has to rev to over 8000 while the SLR only revs to 6500

The supercharger helps push the SLR to 440 lbs of torque @ 1500 RPMS and peak at 575 lbs @ 3,000 - 5,000.

The enzo hits peak torque @ 6500 RPMS with only 484 lbs

So at 1500 RPMs the SLR only has 44 less torque than the enzo does at peak (6500 RPMS).

As we all know peak numbers don't mean shit, its the whole power band that make a car move.

Both cars have decently flat torque curves and have gearing that keeps them in their respective powerbands. Driving an Enzo, powerband-wise, isn't quite like driving a high-revving Honda that only has a 2000rpm powerband that you have to work to stay in. The Ferrari V12 is much more flexible and has a much flatter torque curve than the high-revving piston engines we're used to do, and if Ferrari did the gearing correctly the torque difference should not matter.

I'm at least glad to see that the Benz beat the Enzo.
