automatic trans questions

my celica is the first auto i have owned so i have little exp with them, and im having a few issues with it, thought maybe some people on here may be able to help.

problem 1: sometimes when its cold after coming to a complete stop and then trying to start again, it just doesnt go... i can floor the gas and literally nothing happens, the engine doesnt rev up and it actually accelerates slower than if i just idle accelerate. to me is kind of feels like when you try and start 3rd. once it gets above 10-15mph it drives normal and once it warms up its fine.

problem 2: it shifts hard

hoping this is a 'change the trans fluid' problems, how hard is that on a auto, did it on my old truck and on the 8, but they are both MT.

thanks for any help!

Hmm... not trying to be an ass but maybe this will help you. Toyota Celicas - The Toyota Celica Forum

yeah already a member on there helped with a variable valve timing issue i had last year. but it is not as active a membership as here and being a trans issue (i assume, and thus general automotive) i thought i would get a quicker response here.

lots of google-ing it seems both problems can be solved(potentially) by changing the trans fluid as i suspected. also youtubing AT fluid changes it seems actually easier to change the AT fluid than than a MT so i'll see if i can get this done this weekend.

Maybe your transmission is going out. I had the same problem with my Mazda Protege, almost identical issues. Had the transmission replaced and sold the car to one my wife's relatives.
