Anyone test drive a MANUAL 370z ?!?!

Considering selling my rx8 for perhaps a nissan 370z. I want a car that handles good but i want more torque in my life. Im really scared ill regret it cause from what some people said... the rx8 has a spiritual driving experience unlike other cars. SO i want to ask those of you who own an rx8 and have test driven a 370z .. how it is ??

Of course i will test drive one myself before purchase but i would like a bit of opinions please.

Thanks

you should go drive one!

Are-Ex-Eight 09-18-2011 06:30 PM

I have. Syncro rev is useless.

It revs and sounds like a truck. Other than that it was ok.

I'm still a fan of 4 seats but I wish ours were air conditioned!

I test drove one a while back and it was a pretty fun car. I liked it quite a bit more than the 350z. I never liked the 350z, so I was fairly surprised by the 370. I'd say you really need to test drive it, though. If I were to look at the 370 or the 8 right now, I'd have a tough time deciding. They're both good cars and it kind of comes down to person preference. Some people will care about subtle differences in driving feel more than others. The "spirit" of the 8 is exceptional. It's not like the 370z is completely lacking in spirit... it's not something like a camry.

Have you narrowed down your possibilities to the 370z or are you still looking around?

jasonrxeight 09-18-2011 06:41 PM

whatever fits your gloves. I prefer 8 over 370z

Rotary-RX8 09-18-2011 06:51 PM

ye im looking at a 370z as my top choice. I was considering an M3 but its way out of my price range.

SayNoToPistons 09-18-2011 07:01 PM

Three characters- Z06.

Rotary-RX8 09-18-2011 07:58 PM

way out of my price range as well lol. And i wouldnt feel right daily driving a z06 lol.

I dont need THAT much torque.

SayNoToPistons 09-18-2011 08:00 PM

Well what is your price range and new or used.

Rotary-RX8 09-18-2011 08:02 PM

used for sure lol. Roughly 25 ish but then again canadian and us markets are very different :P

8 Maniac 09-18-2011 08:20 PM

If you're willing to look at cars with a few more miles on them, the M3 shouldn't be out of the question. The M3 was going to be one of my recommendations.

You may want to take a look at an S2000. It's not quite in the same direction as you're thinking, but it is a bit more speedy than the 8 and offers a better feel than the 370, in my opinion. They're fairly mod friendly, so a bit more power wouldn't be too difficult to achieve if you wanted a bit more than it offers in stock form.

SayNoToPistons 09-18-2011 08:37 PM

I always found the S2000 AP1 to be EXTREMELY similar to the RX-8, especially when it comes to power output. Handling is sharp like an RX-8 also, but the S2000 definitely over steers with much less effort and is without a doubt less forgiving. I seldom drive my friends AP1 S2000 with Tein springs (of some sort), invidia header back exhaust, and an intake.

I wouldn't go for an S2000 if he is looking to replace the RX-8. Less practical for daily driving, without much beneficiaries.

I would look for a C5 Z06 if torque was taken into consideration.

8 Maniac 09-18-2011 09:17 PM

Yeah... I was hesitant to mention it because of how similar it is, but I figured it was worth mentioning.

Daily driving a Z06 isn't too crazy. It's a lot of power, but you'll get used to it a lot quicker than you might expect. It only takes a little bit of control to drive it on a regular basis.

SayNoToPistons 09-18-2011 09:36 PM

A C5 Z06 can be found for $25,000. The LS6 is more reliable than the sun, capable of mid-high 20s MPG HWY, roomy two seater interior, usable trunk space (no retarded Z car strut bar), and the aftermarket support is one of the best.

The C5 Z06 handles great (even compared to imports), and does 0-60 in less than 4 seconds. What more could you ask for?

Better off with a 370z because it is the current generation. More time value until Nissan releases the next model.

Don't expect anything to be like the rx8. Small regrets are inevitable, just make sure the next car you get has better engine reliability.

LifeAfterRx8 09-19-2011 02:31 AM

I test drove both the 370z and the 350z and I'd say the 8 feels a lot better.
The 370z looks great, but it feels to heavy and bulky IMO.
Also it sounds like a cow mooing when it revs. :|

I was one of those people that loved the exhaust note of the G35 until someone said it sounded like a sad/dying cow. It just hasn't been the same since...

Thanks for forever ruining it for me also...

+1 C5 Z06, as long as you keep your eyes looking through the windows and not on the interior.

I would actually say if you can find a comparatively priced regular C6 over a C5Z06 the newer platform is superior in every way. Also the 370Z isn't a bad car by any stretch, but I will agree with everyone that it does sound dreadful. An aftermarket exhaust can make the car sound alright... but I would consider it a necessity. The stock setup sounds to me like a depressed person sighing.

Roidz 09-19-2011 04:35 PM

I've only driven a 350Z once. I hated it.

qtwre 09-19-2011 08:25 PM

I've read in a couple magazines now that the brakes overheat rather easily.

77mjd 09-19-2011 10:38 PM

When I bought my 8 new in '04 it was between that and the 350z and after test driving both, it was the 8 hands down...not even close. The 350 felt horrible to me in pretty much every way and didn't really even feel faster than the 8.

Fast forward to the 370 coming out and it's an entirely different story. While the 370 still doesn't have the glove-like feeling the 8 does the handling is now pretty darn close and I definitely feel the 370 is better than the 350 in every way. Since a new rotary car won't be out anytime soon I do plan to make the 370z my next car. I'm willing to sacrifice a little bit of overall feel the 8 has for more power, torque and mpg. While I still love the 8, I can't justify buying another when they haven't been able to improve it's main weaknesses during the time it's been out. Nissan, on the other hand, pretty much went to work and improved most of the complaints people had with the 350 and I think they did a good job with it.
