Anyone Like Scions?

Anyone in here like scions besides their 8

cgrx 07-14-2004 03:05 AM

not besides, but the new Tc is not bad

Magic8 07-14-2004 05:41 AM

I have an Element (Wife's car) and I think the xB is nice. I have thing for boxy shape cars.

Jeffjett 07-14-2004 09:09 AM

I also like the TC. Just waiting for more info on them.

Don Vito 07-14-2004 09:22 AM

I heard that the quality is not good.

KC_Prelude 07-14-2004 08:56 PM

Ive heard that the quality is not good on the a and b models but the c is a newer and pricier car. I sat in the scion and got a worthless ride in it (bumper to bumper traffic around the block). Heres what I can say about the xC...

Typical toyota Quality,
looks good in person
Great stereo
Great Moonroof
Rear seats recline 45 degrees (its awesome you could sleep back there)
Room for 3 in the back
seats fold down and it becomes a 2 seater wagon
Supercharger = badass
Its cheap and lots of stuff is standard
Its generally just well thought out and of higher quality than you would ever expect for the price. Its a great car, I think car and driver just reviewed it, I havent read it yet but I know it was definately positive.

No. I hate how they're trying to target my audience with such blatant marketing strategies.

shelleys_man_06 07-14-2004 10:44 PM

Blatant marketing strategies? What exactly does that mean? Sure, Toyota had a target audience, yet older people still bought into the idea. Hey, they're selling these things like hotcakes. Young people, especially teenagers, don't have a lot of money. Toyota is trying to appeal to their parents, because they're the ones who are ultimately paying for it. Toyota's strategy has worked once again. Personally, I wouldn't be caught dead in a Scion, but you have to give Toyota credit for marketing something that is cheap, accessible, and afforable.

T.T. 07-15-2004 10:07 PM

Then they should just advertise them as affordable cars like they do the Corolla. But no, they have to have songs from crappy DJs playing in the background while they drive around in the city or run away from spaceships or whatever their commercials are now. I saw a fifty-year-old couple driving in an orange xB...strange sight....

Hornet 07-16-2004 04:10 AM

I finally saw a tC! Not a bad looking car. I can't stand the xB. The xA is decent. And that ladies and gentlemen is my opinion of the Scion lineup!

Jeffjett 07-16-2004 08:49 AM

Agreed. I saw a silver one with those nice 17 inch stock wheels. Not bad at all!

jonnyb 07-16-2004 01:45 PM

the xa and xb are poor excuses for automobiles. the tc has crappy performance in a nice looking coupe. it handles worse than a civic and almost has the same 1/4 mile as my v6 camry. i would much rather have a used solara than that thing.

downshift 07-21-2004 11:56 AM

I checked out the Tc over the weekend. The front and rear looks pretty good. The side view looks bland because of the high shoulder line. There's too much flat surface on the side but I guess it would be a good way to put your Fast and Furious graphics on.

Interior is roomy but you get what you pay for. I don't quite agree that it is good like what a lot of reviewers say. The controls, fit and finish are good but the surface feel is not. I think the Civic and the Mazda 3 is better. The gauges are kind of small for a big car, with the little tach on the right. I like the panaromic sunroof, which is quite cool. The covers for it though, reminds me of the blinds you find in college dorm rooms but I don't see any way around it because of space constraints. The hatch is huge! There's a lot of room to haul stuff and the big opening the hatch creates helps a lot.

In summary, I think the Tc is a good deal for the money. You get more features (standard ABS, 17" alloys, MP3 player) and hp than any other car in its class for the price range 16k+. That is the advantage of building a car from a parts bin. However, I'm disappointed that the Tc is supposed to be the spiritual successor to the Celica in the American market.

I test drove the Scion Tc Coupe 5-speed...

-Great Engine loves to rev.. Camry Engine 4-cylinder vvtl-i 2.4 liter
-Great Interior, Quality if awsome...
-FWD.. but have great handling... not as nice as RSX but it is 3 grand cheaper
-225 Z-rated tires..17 inch rims...i personally like the design
-Enough space in the back
-seats are awesome.. sport seats...
-tranny is smooth and precise...
-Has 2 sunroofs front n rear

I would buy... no dount it's a steel for 16K.. it a nice car..

Civic watchout...

Went in to buy an XA last April. Needed a 110 mile a day commute car. Thought the XB was the ugliest thing I had ever seen. After I drove it, I bought it. Sold my '93+ MX-6 and '89 Blazer to get the monthly payments down. That with 35 mpg and fantastic cargo capacity makes the XB a great buy. It drives great for what it is and is so easy. Love the XB!

I've driven the xA and I was really impressed. The ride felt more like a Honda than a Toyota. I see it as serious competition to the Civic. Good pick up and the car felt really solid. I just don't like that center guage.

I also drove the new Chevy Aveo 4-dr for fun. It is truly basic transportation from point A to B in its purest form.

lusnooy 07-30-2004 09:20 AM

My friend just picked up a tC last week and i was in the back seat.
My quick thoughts were; very nice and clean looking(white), nice package for the price, almost looks like G35C from the side, almost looks like 6series on the head lights, enough power(2.2liter?? i think...) smooth, solid.

it's definetly a big 'uh-oh' for honda because it's priced like Civic, but performs like an RSX.

i did find one thing that i didn't like: the stock steering wheel is very cheap, the middle piece for honk moves around when you touch it. you'll know what i'm talking about if you ever touched it yourself...

overall it's definetly a keeper.

lusnooy 07-30-2004 09:22 AM

wait, how much are the civics?? sorry i think civics are cheaper... are they?

PA BATMOBILE 07-30-2004 09:31 AM

tC is nice, sporty little job, trd supercharger will probably make this thing a big seller.

Chrisbert 07-30-2004 09:41 AM

If I was looking for a very nice "disposable" car, yes. By "disposable" I mean any car in the low to mid teens price range. Drive it till the wheels fall off.

They sure didn't have such feature-rich cars in that price when I was a kid.

My sister and her husband bought the Aveo, and haven't had any problems. The MP3 player is fine, the air conditioning is fine, and no major defects so far.

On the other hand, gas mileage is only in the high 20s for city and mid 30s highway. Considering how small the car is, that's pretty low.
