All new BP Mazda 3 BEATS LEXUS Crash Test

The only time I can think of that Mazda released a new technology before they released a new vehicle model is with the original 2.0 SkyActiv-G engine in the Mazda 3.
Then in 2013, they released the all new CX-5 with that 2.0 engine.
Then in 2014, the all new 2.5 SkyActiv-G engine was released in both the CX-5 and the new Mazda 6.
The simple reason to wait to unveil a new technology in a vehicle platform is to allow the people who refuse to buy the first model year of a new vehicle to get used to the changes.
Some people simply refuse to be an "early adopter".
People still bitch about GDI being untrustworthy technology, so much so, that certain companies are forced to design their small I-4 engines with 8 fuel injectors just to appease these people.
I would love to buy a Mazda 6 Signature today.
But at the same time, there is supposed to be a battery powered vehicle being unveiled sometime soon.
I want to know more about that.
BC.

There are times where they are good reasons to not adopt new technology. Ask anyone who bought a V6 Honda paired to an automatic in 2008~2012 or anyone who bought a Honda 1.5T in 2016. I bet they have a lot to tell because these new technologies went so well for them.
I'd rather see them work the kink out rather than having them issue an expensive recall later. I hope everyone here still remembers the Skyactiv-D recall.

Before I view SayNotoPistons new post, there is one huge issue (as I see it) that Mazda has dropped the ball on.
MZD Connect II or Mazda Connect II, which is the new version which will roll out to all new models coming.
1. No Touchscreen, and yes I know the removal of touch is for 'safety' or is it to just save a few Yen $$'s per car made.?
2. The OS set up is way too complicated to navigate through.
Most other brands have touchscreens and most are way more simpler to use and operate.
As the guy on CR said Mazda has gone backwards by ONLY having a Comander ****...doing what BMW did 10 years ago with a complicated OS set up.
I dont get JCI why after a decade of refining original Mazda Connect they come out with this!
And it is huge that every Mazda out in the next few years will have this exact new system, you will have every journalist complaining about it for the next 10 years.
Another bad move Mazda.
Dont get me started as to WHY Mazda has left out Skyactiv X engines for 6 months before release...they do this BS everytime.
PUT YOUR BEST FOOT FORWARD FIRST MAZDA!, OR DON'T DO IT AT ALL!

The new mazda system seems fast and simple. Not sure what the complaint is. It's far better looking than its predecessor.
The old mazda connect doesnt allow you to use touch when driving anyway, and that is the right thing to do. You shouldn't be messing with a touch screen when you are driving, as it is a colossal driver distraction. (*cough* tesla *cough*)
The new location of the screen seems fine, and its very nice looking. The old system wasn't exactly amazing. It's super slow to boot/start, and ugly. The only time I used touch was when entering an address into the navigation system anyway. I prefer my m3's idrive to the old mazda system any day of the week.

I don't know. I have a co-worker that just picked up a new 3. The infotainment isn't that bad. The similarities between it and bmw idrive (CIC and later, not CCC) are no coincidence I'm sure. Like it or not, idrive is the golden standard of infotainment systems. They did it first, and its arguably better than most of its competitors.

Main thing with Tesla's system is that there are some basic functions that are best left as physical buttons. Volvo did that and I kinda like how it looks. It at least leaves the climate control buttons outside of the touch screen.
As for the "no touching when driving" setting... On one hand, I have seen some new Accord owners saying this is one of the reasons they picked the Accord over the 6(Accord still allows you to touch the screen when driving). On the other hand, it's a good way to save themself from some potential lawsuits.

Also, I think my old Accord also didn't have anything that prevented you from using the navigation when moving. Maybe it's just a Honda thing.

Actually most every car prevents you from entering a navigation address while you are moving. Even aftermarket units have a wire that is supposed to detect if the handbrake is on. Only when the handbrake is engaged can you enter an address. That is assuming, someone decided to wire up that feature and not accidentally leave it disconnected.

A brutally honest, yet refreshing review of the new Mazda3.
Long story short - it is significantly better than the previous generation Mazda3 in every department (minus identical drivetrain), including the chassis dynamics. Now, quit crying about the torsion beam suspension, because Mazda has tuned the suspension and chassis to be far superior than models before.

Savagegeese is by far the most unbiased and detailed reviewer i've come across (motomantv is another excellent technical reviewer). So I will take his word for it and believe that Mazda has done an (unexpectedly) outstanding job with the new Mazda3. We'll wait for the next gen CX-9 before the wife and I consider going to the germans for a large family crossover.
PS: the video goes into detail with the new infotainment system, and addresses any of the potential concerns ASH8 might have. Having used Audi's MMI and BMW's last gen iDrive without a touchscreen, both of which are industry leaders, I don't see the new Mazda system being an issue whatsoever.

Oh, and there is a possibility that we will see a hot hatch version of the 3 in the future.
They already have all the necessary ingredients lined up: a turbocharged engine and an AWD drivetrain. Slap some suspension and handling tweaks on there and boom.

Especially if it can still have a bit of luxury as mentioned, that would be something that sets it apart from its competitors. I for one would think this would look better than Civic Type R(iced from the factory).
