Affordable Ferrari

Guys it looks like Ferrari is going to produce a cheaper car to compete against the Porsche 911 and the Aston Martin Vantage v8.

army_rx8 04-19-2005 05:38 PM

lol if there is such a thing as a cheaper ferrari. it looks great though :D

m477 04-19-2005 06:07 PM

Hmmm, I think you're using the word "affordable" pretty loosely there. :p

Audioslave8 04-19-2005 06:16 PM

Thats pretty cool... hope it works out for ferrari. I see tons of porsches around

spork 04-19-2005 06:16 PM

Huh?

This car costs 85K british pounds which equals $162,979 according to Yahoo! Currency Converter. Yikes!

Tho the F430 apparently costs $226,253 for British people apparently. It costs a mere $170K here (according to Edmunds).

I am hoping that my next ride will be in that league here in Australia THE 911 PORCHE IS AROUND $239,000 , well id rather get a Ferrari for the same
/ similar price .

The Aston Marting Vantage V8 is also around $250,000 i guess affordable to some :p :D

Both these cars will give the arrogant Germans selling the same old same old 911 the wake up call they should have got ten years ago .

cheers

Thats because the US dollar has not been weaker since the great depression. Right now the a Pound is worth roughly 2 dollars. The exchange rate for the british pound had been about 1 pound=1.5 dollar for the last 20 years. Using this rate the $118 F430 is about right. I would expect this new car to be around $120,000.

himitsu 04-19-2005 09:49 PM

There is no such thing as an "affordable" Ferrari.

Mindtrip 04-19-2005 09:56 PM

The only "cheap" Ferrari is made by Hot Wheels

Would you mind expanding on the idea that somehow the Germans are arrogant, and even better how the 911 is the 'same old' car. Have you even driven a 911?

cas2themoe 04-19-2005 11:04 PM

Looks like a smart business move. I think it will do well.

Owned one for 6 months in 1986 i traded it for a mercedes 380SL The clucth was way heavy servicing costs parts were ridicuolous the interior was very sparse then they didnt even give you a lockable globe box.

The 911 shape has been a slow evolution , finally they have updated the interior albeith with one out of the cayeenne

Back in the 70 -80's porchse had no real competition today its a different story with lots of other brands surpassing them in performance and value .

The only porsche that is a real drivers car is the upcoming porsche cayman a hardtop version of the boxster with extras .

Had porsche produced the RX8 HOW MUCH MORE WOULD THE CAR COST ??

XENON LIGHTS ON MOST PORSCHES ARE EXTRA AS WELL AS 18 INCH WHEELS , NO ALUMINIUM BONNETS OR DOORS wheres the value ??

cheers
michael

I personally feel Porsche is unsurpassed in performance/luxury/value. The 996 is one of the most beautiful cars on the road in my opinion. It's fast as hell, handles like a beast and comes in below most Italian exotics. There are few better performing cars around the price of this car.

I'm thinking the C6 Z06 is way more affordable (will be anyway, show me a porsche for less than a hundred grand that has C6 Z06 numbers, maybe they're out there but I haven't seen one) and pretty close if not better performance wise.

This argument should be familiar territory to 8 owners. I could go by an SRT-4 and get better performance than the 8 for 15 K less CDN. The 8 offers a complete package, however, and is well worth the extra money in my and your opinions. Same thing with a Porsche. Currently I would think the GT3 at 99K USD offers Z06 performance.

A good friend of mine owns The Collection of Fine Cars in Toronto. I have driven the ferrari 355,360, NSX,e46 m3,porsche 997,c4,GT2, supra w/big turbo, and although the ferrari 360 is a thorobred and sounds f@#$@n amazing, I think the porsche is my pick for a daily driver supercar. It flat out flys and someone on an R6 can justify that ;). The thing that most impressed me is the subtle ride around town over all types of surfaces. If anyone here has a chance to drive a turbo'd porsche do it cause it feels so smooth as the turbo's spool up and the car feels like it's lifting off.

The ferrari has amazing handling but the ride is way stiffer in comparison and it is noisy. I love the sound don't get me wrong but sometimes it would be nice if it was a bit less heat score. Driving the ferrari definatly gets more attention. kind of the same feeling as walking around with jennifer lopez in your arm :D .

So best buddy, when we testing out a GT2 :D

Yea, that's pretty much what I was going to say. Sure the Z06 is a great car, it's just not a Porsche. That's a stupid answer but I can't explain it much better than that. BlueEyes, that 997 was pure perfection, god I want one :D
My neighbor has a GT3, and I wanna drive it so bad. He's like a 20 year old kid, so maybe I can go talk to him sometime and convince him to let me take it for a spin :p I wish I had one soooooo badly. A day will come when I own a very nice Porsche, mark my words

He doesn't have one at the moment but my other friend that owns one of a kind limo and exotic car rentals has one that he will rent for $300 a day which is a serious deal. I could also rent the 550 or sl55 for the same price. If you want to cough up the $300 I could hook you up. ;)

A GT3 laps Nurburgring in about the same time (&:54 vs 7:56) as a C6 Z51, which would put it a little behind a C5 Z06 and pretty far behind a C6 Z06. This is actually pretty good, seeing as how a 360 Challenge Stradale can only match the C6's time while costing twice as much as the Porsche and four times as much as the Corvette. Like you said, though, these cars aren't about performance per dollar but rather the total package, so lap times don't tell the whole story.

BlueEyes 04-20-2005 01:59 PM

yeah, you're right. For some reason I was thinking GT3RS times, I wish we got that over here.

I can't wait for the C6 Z06 to come out, it's going to be a beast. I'll admit I was disappointed about it at first jumping to a 7 liter engine, but its not a 4k redliner so I calmed down. This car will be the fastest car for the money and probably one of the best all around performers on the market(will be faster than most Porches or other exotics). The thing is it doesn't have that uber rich appeal that the others do. At least not as much of it. Ferraris and Porsches are awesome performers but some people just feel better if they own a more expensive car than the next guy(my dad acts like this sometimes and gets on my nerves, albeit he doesnt drive an exotic) All in all they are all great cars but on different levels. My apologies for the long rant, my brain is fried, just finished my calc 2 test and it hurt my head...a lot. :D
