Hi everyone, as a newb please excuse me if I posted in a wrong forum.:dunno:

I just got a 2004 rx8 6 speed MT, 54k runs excelent. I'm looking to hop it up a bit.
Don't want to kill the budget on this or kill the engine, but so far I was thinking about three add ons

1. intake - K&N 69-6030-1TFK Typhoon Air Intake Kit, Short Ram, Flat Black

2. Replica cat back exhaust, seller swears it's stainless steal and has good reviews.

3. Chip - confused to crap on this, was looking at a PCD brand

so please keep in mind that I'm looking for the cost to be low but add some few horses and sound at it. For sure don't want to kill the engine with this or
create an abortion out of this and end up with one confused ECU and a car with a mind of it's own :Wconfused

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I know I'm not throwing too much $ at this but like I said, not looking to race it (for sure not with the wallmart list I posted) :mdrmed:

1. Don't bother with an intake, it will do nothing but make noise and the typhoon has a terrible reputation.
2. Some people have had luck with catbacks from ebay. I wouldn't press my luck.
3. Chips do nothing. You want a Cobb AccessPort and tuning if you want any type of bump in performance based on tuning.
4. The best quick HP gain for the buck is a catless midpipe. It's still only ~8 to 10 if you're lucky.

Read all of the forum stickies, especially the one linked above. Check out the aftermarket performance modifications and the major horsepower sections as well

1. Unless you have a turbo, the intake won't add much except noise. If you want to improve throttle response, buy a Green Filter or K&N drop-in filter instead.
2. I wouldn't buy a no-name catback. Racing Beat is a really good choice IMO.
3. Unless you buy a reputable interceptor or reflasher, I think you're wasting your money. Look around for a used Cobb AP. It's worth it.

BTW, when evaluating these "power chips", always look for the "how it works" section. If it doesn't have one or if it mentions something about 'fooling' the IAT, MAF, or any other sensor readings, stay away from them.

Or stay away from ANY chips and do the tuning the proper way....about the same as chopping springs. Just because it does something, doesn't make it the right way ;)

Once again thanks for the great advices, that was my first shot at where to begin. I'll get something together with the right help. I have many hobbies to get out of the office , I fly a single engine Bonanza, skydive, ice hockey great fun with my kids. My ten year old loves cars so this will be a fun project with the Rx8, total blast to drive. So maybe in 7 years I'll have her restored and finely tuned so he can have it.

Chill out. You wont last long here if you ask questions like that and get upset at the responses you got.

If you do work with computers, you should be familiar with the internet and you should know how to take this sort of stuff. You should also have a basic understanding of forums. I'm not sure how you did your research, but it's clear you at least took a couple minutes to search and find those products listed in your first post. You could have easily spent 5-10 minutes acquainting yourself with the forum and you probably would have found the answers to your question. There are a lot of existing discussions on the information you asked. We have stickied threads in each section of the forum that are specifically designed to help new people out.

You posting a link to your website could be considered advertising, no matter what your intent may be. I'd recommend editing your posts and removing the links. If you're actually just trying to help people by offering your services, then simply mention that you can help and let people contact you for more information. You may have good intent, but rules are rules. You posting a link probably breaks the advertising rules of the forum.

I'm not trying to be an ass, just realistic. If you've done your research, people will generally respond better. This forum has a wealth of knowledge already available. It's painfully obvious that you created your account and almost immediately posted this thread. If you had looked for any information on the products mentioned, you would have found your answers almost immediately. There's a search button at the top of the page. Try using that a bit and you may be surprised how easily you find the answers you're looking for.

most people who bash the K&N intake never even seen the intake in person.

it is not the best intake especially at idle, the MAF location is a bit off, and only useful if you combine it with RB Ram with it when moving. but at least I had no problem using it at 90+ degrees weather.

power lost? I have no idea. it works fine for my 8 back then.

I had Mazdaspeed and HKS intake so I know how all of them works.

Back to stock because its quiet. and honestly NONE of the intake will give you anything useful except noise level.

Thanks for the info. I know everyone makes their products sound awesome,
and in different markets you can tell it's just crap easier. But the lenghts some of these aftermarket and performance parts makers go to have me believe them, or at least assume they are padding it up a bit and asume I will get something that will at least work and make some improvement.
To learn here that some of the stuff I have been looking at is total junk is scary. I'll spend some time reading reviews from people who know their stuff and had personal expiriences with these miracle parts that end up in the garbage.
