"95" RX-7, the rare one !!

I was down to the Morries Mazda (Minneapolis) dealership where I purchased my RX-8 last spring for the "N" reflash and Battery TSB. While cruising the showroom at 7:00 AM, waiting for my car, I came upon this 95 RX-7 that was for sale. It was impressive looking and my first upclose inspection of this model. Later, I e-mailed the sales person to inquire about it and received back the following reply. The asking price is out of my range however some RX-8 Forum member or an RX-7 enthusiasts will surely be interested. Here is her reply with a link (copy and paste it) to view the car. I would think her claims are true regarding its rareness and history. It is a class A dealership from my purchase and service experience with them.

The 95 red RX-7 is ours and it is for sale. It has had one owner, in Georgia. A Mazda dealer principal had it in his car collection.

It has 10,7XX actual miles. It was sold from the Georgia dealership and presumably serviced there, since the dealership owner was also the car owner.

This is the Touring model with manual transmission. Touring includes the Bose audio, the leather and the moonroof.

There is a story with this car. It was the absolute last new RX-7 Mazda ever shipped to the U.S., and it has the papers to prove it. The Georgia dealer bought the car new, put it in his collection, and it has remained there (barely driven) ever since. It is truly a one-of-a-kind car. I know that the previous owner is hoping it will go to a collector, but we're not demanding that. In my view, whoever buys this car would want to drive it. And ought to. The 7 is a breathtaking car to drive!

Morrie, who created this dealership, still has his 95 RX-7 in his basement, but he's not selling. That one is also a red 95 Touring.

OK forum members, I've done my part, hopefully someone out there in the world of Rotary's may have a desire to check it out. I have no affiliation with the dealer or reason beyond sharing this interesting story, to post it. I wish I could buy it myself but my RX-8 makes me happy enough.

It will probably sell for close to it--I saw a 95 touring go for about $35K with around the same mileage.

The fact that so few of them were brought to the US does make the FD a potential investment.

I saw it too on Saturday. It was a nice one, has the BBS wheels and was basically mint from my brief look over it.

So if the original owner was also the owner of the Mazda dealership in Georgia, why sell it to your dealer in Minneapolis?

EDIT: And the price! Geez, that's about $4K more than I paid for my '93 R1 which I bought new back in '93.

With inflation that should make it around their being it only has 10k its mint.

Thats the thing--RX-Hachi, they are rare enough to be collectors items. Especially if more and more of these pop up on the market.

Perhaps so, if they can get that price, more power to them. I think $15-25K for a good condition FD is bad enough, which does reflect the rarity of the car.

It's not like these things are reliable, they are just not made to last. The turbos fail and the engine heat will destroy the vacuum lines. Things will fail and one will need a really good rotary mechanic to keep it as a collector's vehicle. As the years go by and the miles are added, I doubt the car will appreciate. It will be a losing proposition.

Even with the low miles, this car is still 10 years old. If it was 1998, I might consider it for that price, but it's 2005. And if Mazda does come out with a killer 4th gen RX-7, you'll see the 3rd gen prices in downward free fall.

I agree with RX-Hachi, edmunds.com says that a 95 RX-7 with leather, moonroof, and bose in perfect condition is worth anywhere from 13k to 17k, thats all they would get from me if I were to want it

While I agree with the fact that this is is on the pricey side, the thing to note here is that sites like edmunds.com and kbb.com do not reflect true market values for cars. A car's true market value depends on how much someone is willing to pay for it, not how much the owner would like to sell it for.

But aside from that, this car looks sweet. Maybe when I win my megamillions in Las Vegas at the end of the month, I might swing by and snatch this baby up.

There is no online car appraisal book in the world that will write you a check for the amount that they say a car is worth.

For the FD to lose any value to a new RX-7 it would have to look as good as the FD. I doubt they can pull that off. The FD is one of the best looking cars ever. It's one of the few that I can afford that I would consider selling my 911 for. And it is rare. And it's fast. And with proper care can last a long time. Just like any classic. Which it will become.

39k sounds a bit rediculous to me... My buddy got his for just 12k (a steal :eek: ), mint condition off ebay!

I'm going to go look at this tomorrow or over the weekend for the helavit...I'll take it out for a spin if they let me and give you guys some feedback on its condition. I've bought cars and been serviced by Morries since 1982 so if they don't let me drive it I can make a big stink OR get something free out of it :p.

Well FWIW, http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/VIN.html also indicated that #526 was the VIN on the last RX-7. However also from that post, someone claimed to have #528. I believe the vin for #528 vehicle comes up in carfax as well :cool: .

The true last RX-7 was the Spirit R. Only 1500 were sold in Japan in 2002 to celebrate the final run of FD's before the RX-8's introduction.
