Smoking turbo yay
I actually wonder why the previous ND 2.0 has such a low redline for a 4-banger. I mean, my old 08 Accord V6 redlined at 6800 RPM as well, and that's a V6 with more moving parts. The I4 Accords of the same year in EX trim and above redline at 7200 RPM.
I do appreciate the smoothness in acceleration in my car though. That's what one of my friends appreciate as well. He sat in an S2k before and said while it's quicker, it feels very unrefined and shaky at higher RPM. I also had a local body shop telling me that some S2k owners sold their S2ks because the VTEC scares them, LOL.
Curious if they could lift it even higher while keeping it refined.
The only thing I don't understand is this part:

Now, there's a bit of controversy about the redline—Grassroots Motorsports drove a 2019 Miata and found it was topping out at 7200 rpm, which was confirmed on a dyno. A Mazda spokesperson later clarified that the car only revs to 7500 rpm in aggressive driving conditions—otherwise, it cuts out at 7200 rpm. I never noticed it, so I suppose I was driving fairly aggressively.

I'll have to see if the new ECU maps are available in ECUTek yet. In the 2016-2018 ND calibrations, it had three different redline perimeters, some lower than the actual redline observed (one was a soft-cut perimeter); I imagine the ND2 will be similar.
There has been a lot of controversy about modern Mazda's on dynos and if they operate differently due to the front wheels not matching rear wheel speed. I've yet to see conclusive evidence to support the theory and am more inclined to believe it is just owners (or tuning shops) not willing to admit the base power, and gains of their mods, is not as incredible as they had hoped. The ND dyno'd above my expectations stock and power gains through tuning were on-par with my expectations, but lower than other tuner claims. I also tested an OpenFlash 1.7G calibration on the dyno, seeing similar results to my own tuning but lower than the claimed numbers.

Yes, they (Mazda) do this every time. like with the NC2, new Pistons/crank/.conrods, they lifted redline RPM and power output, not as much as this newby, ND electrically adjustable camshaft timing means a huge difference over old mechanical types.
Always love the Mazda product by this roll-out of 'improvements' I find really annoying, I just wish Mazda did a better job of it all at the beginning of a new model.
They are So Conservative, probably the worse out of all of them.
Why did it take So Long to get a bigger more powerful Turbo in the Mazda 6?
Why has it taken so long to get Car Play and Android Auto in current range that is 4 years since Mazda mooted these new features which are now Standard equipment on other brands, but will be ONLY available on High Spec Models or as an accessory.
Then the Diesel Engines in USA...WHY...WHY now, a bit late.
Love the ND, all except the RF rear end (tail lights) they are too small and just does not look right, IMO, front and side is GREAT!...Interior GREAT, even with no Glove Box or decent Cup Holders.
Lost of buffering wind noise in the RF about 70 KMs, compared to my NC is really quiet wind...as I said the RF was an afterthought to a full retractable hardtop which could not be made.
