Mazda is getting ready to overhaul the Miata with a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and a more muscular exterior. A new 1.3-liter engine using Mazda’s fuel-saving SkyActiv technology is going to power this fourth-generation Miata roadster. The engine should be significantly lighter and more efficient than the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that does duty in the Miata range here in the U.S.

Hmm...

I think the "turbo'ed" part is pure rumor mongering. I haven't seen a single glimmer from Mazda directly that would indicate FI standard. Going FI on a 14:1 compression ratio isn't something undertaken lightly.

But, SkyActive? That's for sure. The 1.3L is almost a 100% shoe in due to efficiency, size, and weight reasons. Remember, Mazda stated that they were going to try to keep the ND Miata's power to weight the same as the NC but reduce the weight to closer to the NA series weight of 2,100lbs.

and....

People may not agree, but I love the look. Crossing my fingers that they would have a rotary variant (coupe, maybe a few different body panels to make it "a different model" than the Miata)

I think a SA DI turbo 1.3 could see hp numbers north of 150 hp easy and give good torque numbers as well. with a 2100 lb car, that should give good performance numbers.

I like the look. It is more aggressive and less "girlie". LOL

Going to the article and pulling up the bigger images, it has an "illustrative copyright" stamped on each image. So basically just photoshops. And that makes the rest of the article just rumor milling. Some truth bits in there, but too much "editor's license to guess".

That is why I added the "??"s to the title...:dunno:

Why doesn't Mazda just show us all of these revamped models and when they are coming out? Geez...Lotus is launching their new lineup for the 2015 model year and we've seen all the cars already.

Every single Mazda forum is filled with nothing but rumors for all of their cars. No other brand seems to have nearly the extent that Mazda does.

Something tells me it's gonna have a bigger smile than that.

200 HP turbocharged 1.3L Skyactive with DI.... and 2200 Lbs... They have to do something that will have to be better than the BRZ/FR-S

Good grief...THIS Photo-shop rendering from a NC MX-5 has been doing the INTERNET car news rounds from last Friday...

Someone makes it up.... then all the others follow...

NONE, repeat NONE of the information has ANY credence, apart from the fact we can guess it will have a Skyactiv Engine...

Not bad, but its still at least 3 years when this one arrives. No comments for now.

^NO, a 2014 will arrive mid 2013 probably April-May since its a convertable, which will be next year.

except this is something i have been warning bout for years. when years get talked about by Mazda they mean in that year. Industry Journo's and enthusiasts almost inevitably think model year and report/talk about it that way.

So if the report says 2014 then Mazda most likely meant IN 2014 not the model year.
