2010 Porsche Panamera

I don't know about this one. I like the concept and the 4S version (blue) doesn't look too bad. It's almost like a limo Cayman. I would have to see this in person. Would you drive this if you needed the room?

2010 Porsche Panamera

http://www.motorauthority.com/porsch...pril-2009.html

Following this past weekend’s premature leak of official Panamera details, Porsche has now released the full gamut of details and images for its upcoming sedan. The Panamera will officially go on sale in April next year and will make its world debut one month earlier at the Geneva Motor Show. Porsche will be able to build up to 26,000 units per year at its Leipzig Plant, but actual production levels will be kept at just 20,000.

It will be a large car, measuring 1,931mm (76.0in) in width, 1,418mm (55.8in) in height, and 4,970mm (195.7in) in length. Inside, there will be space for four occupants, and the whole car will weigh in at around 1,800kg.

Porsche has developed a new range of engines designed specifically for the Panamera. They range in power output from 300hp (225kW) in the base Panamera, up to 500hp (373kW) in the Panamera Turbo. A mid-range Panamera S is expected to output about 405hp (302kW) from a naturally aspirated V8.

Both a six-speed manual and the new Porsche-Doppelkupplung (PDK) dual-clutch transmission will be offered. Customers will also be able to choose between rear and all-wheel-drive powertrains. Porsche has confirmed that a hybrid variant will be launched, and there may eventually be a turbodiesel model as well.

Base prices in Europe are expected to start at €80,000 ($100,000) for the V6 RWD model and go up to €125,000 ($156,000) for the Turbo AWD variant. Prices in the U.S. tend to be lower than they are in Europe. Further details on the engines, transmissions, performance, prices and equipment will be disclosed closer to the car’s launch next year.

The saga of the Panamera's development has been fraught with an undercurrent of disapproval from Porsche purists, who see the addition of a second set of doors to a 'sports car' as equivalently heretical, or even more so, than the Cayenne, itself anathema to the brand's lovers of all things fast and sleek. There were even widespread concerns at early stages of development that the Panamera might take the spotlight as the ugliest Porsche ever, and though the car remains uncharacteristically long and unwieldy-looking, later iterations have somewhat allayed those fears.

One thing is certain - the Panamera is set to change the performance sedan market radically. Bridging the gap between the so-called super-sedans, or four-door grand tourers, such as the Maserati Quattroporte, or the upcoming Aston Martin Rapide and the more typical hotted-up family sedan, the Panamera will offer extreme high performance in a more affordable package.

The importance of image is not overlooked with the Panamera either, with both hybrid and diesel variants expected to begin sales within a year or two of the car's retail debut. The hybrid unit is expected to include a 3.6L V6 and a 110hp (82kW) electric motor that will enhance both efficiency and performance. The diesel unit would likely be an Audi-sourced 3.0L V6 unit similar to the one to be used in the Cayenne.

That looks terrible.

If someone were to pull up in that next to me, I'd laugh. It's even worse than Porsche trying to pull into the SUV market with the cayenne. They should just stick with sports cars and leave it at that.

bulletproof21 11-24-2008 03:40 PM

lol, I think it actually looks more like a cayenne squished from the top than a stretched cayman. but whatever, very much just ok, not great at all.

kvndoom 11-24-2008 04:09 PM

Porsche Panorama, anyone? ;)

dozer 11-24-2008 04:15 PM

i no like...porsches cars dont look good 4 door, unless its a SUV

StuttgartRX8 11-24-2008 04:17 PM

I've seen this seen driving around where I live for the past year. the front is ok looking but the back is real bad.

BlueEyes 11-24-2008 04:17 PM

I think the rear looks a little awkward, especially in profile. It seems like the kind of car I need to see in person. It will probably grow on me.

Daemos 11-24-2008 04:28 PM

I think it looks good from the front but that rear end is horrible. The little half-back type end doesn't suit it at all, I would prefer a normal rear end with a normal trunk.

is it going to be rear engine or front engine?

nmarz77 11-24-2008 04:44 PM

Front engine I believe. At least that's what was rumored years ago when they leaked they were developing it. Think of it as a four door 928.

Icemark 11-24-2008 04:46 PM

4000lb Porsche sedan that looks like the old Chrysler Crossfire designer is now working for Porsche with that dog taking a crap rear end and Corvette inspired front hood/ bonnet.

Just don't know on that one... I guess Porsche has more money than they know what to do with so it won't hurt them too bad when it flops.

Lol - nice styling analysis. With the Benz CLS sedan, Maserati Quattroporte already out and selling well and the upcoming Aston Martin Rapide and Lamborghini Estoque 4-door sedans being approved for production I guess Porsche wants a piece of the pie. Still curious how well this will sell.

the 989 at least looked decent.

Socket7 11-24-2008 06:26 PM

It's not that its ugly.

its just theres nothing distinguishing at all about it. all the bits on it have been used much better on other vehicles.

It's just kind of a lump of car.

RyanX-8 11-24-2008 06:30 PM

Wrong direction Porsche.. wrong direction...

Pics or it never happened.

I was hoping it would look better in person, I'm just not sure how it could. Is it really bad?

Even the spyshots of it in R&T looked crappy.

Ross_Dawg 11-24-2008 06:37 PM

that is ugly as shit

PotatoSoup 11-24-2008 07:12 PM

It looks like a fuxxored G35. Yup, fail.

I never got pics of it but I do see it, since I live in the City where they make Porsche. But its always covered up in Blueish purple Vinyl with some weird thing on the back.

That is it there was another one covered in black vinyl but I have not seen it since the start of the summer and it didn't have the weird thing on the back. The Porsche and Mercedes Benz factory is about 5 miles from where I live so you always see all the new concepts driving around.

reaper1 11-25-2008 10:50 AM

Not good ............... It's like different part put together. They just need to stick the sports car scene .

Marklar 11-25-2008 05:34 PM

Horrible car, I can't believe that Porsche is making SUVs and sedans now. They are not the Porsche I remember and love.

Besides, if I had that kind of money and wanted a sedan, I'd go for a BMW, since they definitely know how to make the sports sedan thing work. This kind of thing--plus the crippling of the Cayman S to keep it from pwning their flagship 911--makes me think that Porsche has some disturbingly short-sighted leadership.

But hey, they're making money hand over fist, so what do I know.

If someone wants a utility vehicle, they will get a Cayenne. The back end is just all wrong on this thing, it's too bad because the rest looks pretty nice. The Aston Martin Rapide is what a big luxury sports sedan should look like. If Porsche would have made the rear part of the greenhouse look a little more like this and got rid of the hatch I think it would be a winner. But as is... fail.

zoom44 11-26-2008 09:48 AM

rear from the side looks like a SAAB 9000 from the early 90s

a bunch of years ago when caught looking at the RX-8 some Porshe designer were heard saying "This is what we should have built instead of the Cayenne"

if this was their response to that wish its mega fail (styling wise)

I think the people that don't want to be seen in a SUV is the market they are targeting with the Panamera. I think the Rapide is better looking than the Panamera but it still looks off IMO. Stretch a regular Aston Martin coupe and add two doors looks like all they've done there and for some reason the green house and rear quarters are reminiscent of a 2nd gen Dodge Intrepid from that angle. Aston Martins look great but how many more new models will look just like the same original DB9 coupe from 5 to 6 years ago? A decent looking big luxury sedan IMO is still the Maserati Quattroporte or a Mercedes S sedan.

I figured out what the Porsche reminds me of and its an early Bugatti Veyron concept.

Wow! You're right, it looks a lot like that Bugatti!
