2006 Mazdaspeed 6 Base $27,995
Mazda Announces Pricing on 2006 MAZDASPEED6, Introduces MAZDA3 and RX-8 Special Edition Models
Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today announced pricing for the company's high-performance MAZDASPEED6 sedan. When the car goes on sale in summer 2005, it will be priced from $27,995 (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price). Equipped with a 270-horsepower turbocharged direct-injection gasoline engine, MAZDASPEED6 is the most powerful and best-handling sedan ever sold by Mazda. http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/st...2769792&EDATE= |
Mazda has a winner on there hands with this one--what are their projections?

Hmm - 5k more than the current 220hp Mazda6S for 50 more horsepower and AWD. Soundsgood to me. Itll probably be in the 0-60 range that the Rx8 should haveoriginally been at. But whyrelease a sedan thatis faster than your flagship car?

Car looks good though |
The Mazdaspeed 6 needs a diet before I'll care.

Actually, the numbers I've seen for it are a little disappointing. The thing is a pig, so 0-60 times are somwhere above 6 seconds from what I remember. Like Ike said, it needs a diet.
|
Well--keep focus guys--its target demographic is Subaru Legacy GT and maybe Acura TL buyers. Besides--the car may be quicker than the estimates suggest. Cause they estimate 0-60 time of 6.2 seconds--I wouldn't be surprised to see this car hit 60 in as little as 5.7/5.8 sec.

Hope It Stays Like This

The original concept looked much better IMO, more refined, classy, yet sporty looking.

here's what ike is talking about. they decided to go sedan instead of hatch for body stiffness.

R&T says 0-60 is 5.5 seconds, not 6.2 like MT said. 5.5 would be pretty nice.

"MAZDASPEED6 is the most powerful and best-handling sedan ever sold by Mazda."
maybe the first thing...DEFINITELY not the second thing, gosh don't reporters research anymore????????????????? |
What sedan has Mazda made that would outhandle it? The Mazdaspeed Protege?

Mazda's been turning out hit after hit but I think this one is a bit off. If I were in the market for a AWD sedan I'd drop an extra $4K for a G35x.

Honestly, I would take an MSP over an MS6 despite the more horsepower and AWD. You really couldn't beat the suspension setup on that car. It felt like a 4 door miata. Yes, that good. Plus, they're easy cars to mod. With less than 2000 in upgrades, alot of guys were getting into the 13's. There are alot with even more than that. One guy was offering to trade his car for an 8 somewhere around here, and he had an amazing setup, that would eat EVO's for breakfast. |

When I first heard about the MS-6 I thought it might be kind of cool. I always liked the 6. Then I saw the pictures of what they did to it.... yukkk :(

Its 3589 lbs without options. Its got tiny 18x7 wheels with 215/45/18 rubber. All 6 of the current magazine reviews point out its anything but nimble, and plows from corner to corner like the king of understeer. The rx8 which is basically 600 lbs less in weight, has wider wheels then this thing.
Car and Driver went as far to insult mazda directly by saying with the Mazdaspeed 6 they should think about changing the Z in Zoom-Zoom to lowercase z's. Here's some of the scanned previews if you want to see what they think about the car. Its relatively quick in forward acceleration, but the rx8 will absolutely slaughter it on the track without even trying. http://www.3dluvr.com/crossbow/incoming/Mazda/page1.jpg http://www.3dluvr.com/crossbow/incoming/Mazda/page2.jpg http://www.3dluvr.com/crossbow/incoming/Mazda/page3.jpg Oh and you can't fold down the rear seats...the rear bracing prevents this. So for 28-29k you get a car with 60 more hp, an AWD system that can't function properly due to lack of traction from the tires, a loss of utility due to non functional folding rear seats and 350 lbs more then a 6s MTX base. When "understeer" is considered the primary trait of a vehicle by multiple reviewers, you know it isn't a car designed for performance. Its just a very very nice GT car. Here's some new photos btw, taken yesterday at the LA auto show. http://www.3dluvr.com/crossbow/incoming/MPS/ |
27k!? Is Mazda on drugs!? That car is worth more than 30k....oh wait, Mazda is cool and wants it's cars to be sold. :D

Hey man, I'm just trying to help all the rx8 guys stop getting their panties in a bunch over a car thats actually slower then theirs.
Seems your an MPS 6 lover, which is exactly why I post. Somebodies gotta post the negatives to counter out the positives. Otherwise we'll all sit here eating cheese and bread and go and let the germans just roll on in. As mentioned before, the car needs wider wheels and tires...without them its not going to compete. Every single preview review, including those overseas, have pointed out this car plows all over the track. The AWD system isn't doing anything because it can't overcome the car's weight with the available traction from tiny 18x7 215/45/18 wheels/tires. If you like mr plow, then go ahead and get one . Me? I'll stick to modded 6i mtx's which weigh as much as your 8's. Unless their tripoints...which weighs about 300 lbs less, and is pushing around 280 bhp. |

Whoa, calm down man...it's just a car. This is the internet, which means getting mad is pointless. All crossbow is saying is that this car cannot outhandle the 8.
