OMG That is sweet! I am no Pontiac fan but I'll make that an exception. Good find.

Air Force RX8 08-27-2004 09:31 PM

OMG!! That's friggin huge! Still not big on the style, looks too plain to me, but that's a beast of a motor.

Ajax 08-27-2004 09:40 PM

that's really nice looking actually. i'm sure all the 2k4 owners are pissed.

mpt_yellowRX8 08-27-2004 09:41 PM

Where are the "The Judge" stickers?

I like the car except for how they did the exhaust, it could be better.

snizzle 08-27-2004 09:52 PM

the regular non-Ram Air version is 33 grand..... who is going to pay near 40 for this?

granted, this is a HUGE step up from the 2004 styling even though that is a good looking car in my opinion.... this one looks like a true muscle car

i'd trade in my RX-8 for this if it was comparable in price, gotta hand it to Pontiac.... after I see the performance numbers

Ajax 08-27-2004 10:03 PM

hand it to holden.. since the car really is just a holden w/a pontiac engine in it.

shelleys_man_06 08-27-2004 10:05 PM

That's freakin' nuts. I finally saw a GTO as I was heading to work this afternoon. I almost couldn't recognize it; it looked like a fleet car.

I would totally see this on the street. Is it just good in straight-line performance, or does it have other merits?

policyvote 08-27-2004 10:17 PM

Damn, that's hot--I'd drive that thing in a heartbeat!

Let's see, if I trade in my '04 Sunfire, I'd still be on the hook for like $30K . . . or the price of an RX-8 configured as I'd want it.

No thanks.

Peace
policy

I dig the wheels. They have a really nice look. But don't care for much else. The exhaust looks really weird. In the one photo the tips almost looked fake - weird.

That is what scares me.

I like holden from the pics I've seen, but pontiac SCARES me. Everyone I've known with a pontiac has had nothing but problems.

The Holden's use Chevy LSx engines over in Australia, too, so the GTO's engine isn't really any different from a Holden's except for the ram air. The thing that I find most interesting is the label "389 Ram Air" in front of the engine as seen in the last picture. If the "389" stands for engine displacement, then 389c.i. = 6.4L, which is approximately the same displacement that the new Z06's engine will be. Currently, there is no 389c.i. engine in Chevy's lineup AFAIK, so this might be something completely new. It could just be a serial number, however, so I don't know if this is really worth getting excited about.

Edit: After a bit of research, I found this thread over on gminsidenews. The picture here is a GM Concept car with a 389c.i. engine and ~500hp. The chances that this car actually reaches production in this form are slim to none, but stranger things have happened... Read the thread for more info.

From what I heard .. its 400-450 hp ... I think it has the same engine as the new corvette ..... thats from what I heard, so we're looking at 12-13 second quarter miles ... stock

The new Vette has a 6.0L (364 ci), the picture says 389.

SHOWOFF 08-28-2004 09:35 AM

The car is going to have a 6.0L V-8. It is the same engine as the one in the Vette. IF that is just a concept car then I am no longer interested.

However next year my wife and I may want another car, if this car makes it into production looking like this... I may become a Pontiac owner.

That thing is just menacing. Huge rear wheels that let the people that are getting smoked behind you know that this is not a car to jack with.

That exhaust has GOT to go. I would like to see 2 outlets coming out of the center of the rear bumper area.

Yup. My girlfriend's mom used to own a Grand Prix. Died all the time. Does that mean the GTO has the same credibility as her Grand Prix?

I am pretty sure its a smaller version of the vette engine , read it some place

mpt_yellowRX8 08-28-2004 11:20 AM

I had trouble with a Mazda in the past but that didn't keep me from getting the car I wanted. My B2300 sucked, but the 8 is great! Just because I had problems with one vehicle from that manufacturer doesn't mean I can't also get a great vehicle from the same manufacturer. But I do have one manufacturer I'm against so I understand your feelings. I'll never drive another Hyundai because of the problems that I had with my wife's car, 99 Sonata. Interior pieces were flying off all the time.

Hopefully we'll see this car on the road in the future minus the exhaust. It looks worse everytime I see it.

JeupRX-8 08-28-2004 06:23 PM

thats what it should have looked like from the get go.

Spazm 08-28-2004 06:29 PM

Gorgeous...except for the exhaust. I actually thought about the GTO instead of my 8...but I thought it looked almost identical to a Grand Prix. If it had been this car, I may not have been an 8 owner.

chinx 08-28-2004 06:50 PM

that looks SO hot! it looks a lot like a show car. are you sure that's the production version?

Jeffjett 08-28-2004 09:01 PM

Nice wheels.

mysql101 08-28-2004 09:05 PM

it looks awesome.

the problem with concept cars is they always put on nice rims/wheels, then for production, they put on rims that are 3" smaller.

shelleys_man_06 08-28-2004 09:13 PM

At least Mazda stayed true to putting 18-inchers stock. If only the fenders weren't so large, we would've been okay with 17's.

s13lover 08-28-2004 09:45 PM

I don't think this is a production based concept. I remember seeing it a few weeks ago and I believe it was built just as a styling exercise to help determine what the '05 should look like.

Anyways, I do like it...except for the exhaust.
