1995 MR2 Turbo or S2000
 

I've come to the conclusion that I may get a used MR2 turbo or an S2000, but I saw specs on paper, but have any of you driven this cars? How do they feel? My uncle has a project MR2 and I like it, but I've never been in an S2000.

as a main car, id go s2k, as a project car if you already have another car id go mr2

After you be in an S2000K your mind will be made up then. If the price was close, I could see the dilemma, but an S2K in good condition will cost much more than a Mr. Two turbo.

aggreed, MR2 can be a project if you have another car, but vastly more potential than an S2000, and alot chaeper too.... besides we could have the same sig

MR2 fo sho. Lil buggers have alot of potential and you dont see many of them around. Of course, as others have said, i wouldnt rely on it for a DD, but for a weekender/project i would def go for it.

Just know that the MR2 is prob THE hardest car on earth to work on/maintain due to the engine/car layout. Buddy of mine had one and simple maintenance and other upgrades require a ton of time/work. And if you need to have it worked on it will cost a TON in labor. They are lil bitches but like any car that requires special attention (eg. RX-7), there is a certain level of pride and accomplishment that goes along with owning/driving a nice one.

Yea the first pic. 91-95 MR2's are only ones Turbo'd.

LOL no we won't, if I end up getting the MR2 it would be the 1995 not 1991...:) anyways, it's probably going to be a daily driver too, since I'm still quite young for a project, turning 17 soon, but I have an old 98' Accord handed down by my mother

S2000. MR2 is not a car for someone who wants a reliable car without problems. i've owned an MR2 and was always fixing something on it.

'95 anything will not be a good DD. too old. You'll be replacing stuff all the time just due to age and wear and tear.

buy the mr2 while its cheap, i garuntee you that soon it will be a pricless classic. it will be the next car frenzy that people will want to fix. first it was the 240sx, then the ae86, now its the damn cresseda... guess what, they are all toyotas. the s2k will always be an easier car to get. but the mr2 turbo.....classic toyota. you already have a dd. get the mr2 because it will be the next big thing. and 5 to 10yrs down the road, i promise you it will only be going up in value. the s2k will not, there are alot of them out there and it is still too new. the s2k is a dime a dozen.

but yum, the s2k is a really nice car, youll get more chicks with it...lol
but youll make more friends with the mr2.. hahaha

I think in the long run the S2000 will be more of a classic car than the MKII.

I would definitely say S2000 but watch out owning it so young as a first rwd car. It can throw some cards at you if not driven safely. Don't buy an unreliable car based off of 10yr speculation. I think the s2000 would be better for you in every way. Better yet, get an rx8 ;)

yeah the date is a mood point since mine has a '96 J-Spec turbo that has 265whp but ohh well... if its a project be careful Ive had mine for 9yrs of which its been sitting for the last 4yrs being worked on when I have time... big project that I dont think will ever end...

Seriously, it's not a very comfortable car for cruising around. Just like the RX-8, it's very responsive to your input when doing spirited driving. I have an Mr2 mk1 for a daily beater, and the ride is softer compared to the S2000. I've never driven an mk2, but I hear the ride is even softer compared to the mk1. I guess I'm confused to what you are looking for. The MR-2 will be a project car and probably will cost you more money than buying an S2000, in the long term.

I don't know why people are saying the MR2 has more potential...potential in what, maybe making easy power out of the engine...like people say the 240SX has TONS of pontial...but in what respect and compared to what?

If you are comparing it to the S2000...other than the ease of making more power out of the engine the S2000 is more advanced...

the S2K has: Stiffer body (how much would it cost to get the MR2 to the same level of body rigidity of the S2K (esp the AP2 models)? The stiffer body allows the driver to have a much better ride with better handling, much more advanced suspension (throwing on coilovers/swaybars on an MR2 is only part of the solution), how about better brakes with advancements such as EBD and more advanced ABS sensors and functionality? How about crash safety? I know people don't like to think about those things, but accidents do happen regardless of how good of a driver you may be.

I know some owners of some REALLY nice 240SXs and they are modified quite a bit, yes the 240s are MUCH faster in a straight line...but even with all the fancy suspension upgrades, they ride VERY stiff (like back breaking stiff) and compared to a stock RX8 don't seem as composed or able to enter corners as well.

make the s2k a project car...take it to 450-500whp turbo or S/C..... drive the accord to work/school....drive the beast when it matters

It won't be much of a project. They have CARB legal supercharger kits out.

S2000 owner, and lots of experience behind the wheel of the 1991 MR2 turbo my friend owned, modified and raced. Wanted so badly to buy one back in the day when they were nearly new but could not afford it, and a few years back almost bought the non-turbo 93 as my daily beater.

I still hold the MR2 as one of my favorite cars, and back in the early 90s I fell in love with an 88 Mr2 supercharged, but didn't buy it because I needed more room in a daily, so I went with a Mistubishi Starion instead. The older mr2s are so much fun to drive, and the 90s ones were really quite amazing. I'd still love to own one, but the turbo model is indeed a nightmare, and being old, it can get VERY ugly very fast.

The S2000 is a more modern, better car obviously, but the reliability is amazing, and I'd definitely go that route. The one thing you get with a 95 MR2 turbo is more exclusiveness, as the S2000 overstayed it's welcome in the market, and they are quite abundant now.

All said, the S2000 is just a fantastic, reliable, and fun car, and I think it's clearly the choice here. You can't find a better reliable sports car used, as they are so solidly built, and like any honda, can keep going and going. Good luck, and have fun!!!
