Sick! :D

Perhaps they did not want to be upstaged by the recent 6 rotor that is making and taking so much RE press recently.

I will say it again; the machine work this guy has done is some of the craziest stuff I have seen in my life. If it works half as well as they propose I would only be more impressed.

Paul.

this last pic on the page is weird, I thought that page was about this 12rotor madness. but in this last pic I don't see anything rotor/engine/car related. I just saw this beauty, what is she holding anyway ?

Wonder if it is an actual street car or some crazy race frame?

Slidin8 08-02-2012 07:07 PM

This is made by a Australian company, so the 6 rotor is unrelated.

The 12 rotor was built for the sports boat market and is now being adapted to suit a vehicle.

Hopefully they will put that into the Rx9 ;-)

I'm guessing fuel economy will be measured in gallons per mile.

monchie 08-04-2012 11:40 AM

That looks bad ass!!!

if it ever gets that far, unfortunately it's been years since BYC built the engine but the only thing that has changed on it in nearly 3 years is it now has a carb on it instead of a paint sprayer to inject fuel into the engine.

the engine was originally built for intercontinental catamaran boat races, but so far has yet to be dyno proven. idling/free revving without load is a bit different than running high revs under boost for extended periods of time. maybe one day it will be more than a shiny object on an engine stand, any claims of output are insubstantiated until it is finished and tested.

and even though it may look light being nearly all aluminum i'm sure that beast of an engine weighs at least 750lbs(just the rotors alone weigh over 100lbs), so putting it into a car will likely never happen even if he does build more than one.

anyone could understand my skepticism though, you don't spend $100k in materials and man hours for a project to just sit. on the upside, even if it only could handle 500 at the crank non turbo at low revs with very little load, that's still more than any other rotary engine could claim.

You do realize the original poster, and everyone after that who has posted didn't make the engine right?

Engine dyno videos are up. Made 815ft lbs at 3300~ish rpms, n/a, and un-tuned etc

Crazy. (Or, if your prefer, cray cray). I approve! :naughty:
