05 Mustangs already outnumber 8 on road

I am seeing a new Mustang every day now on the highway, I am lucky if I see one RX-8 per week. Most of the Mustangs are the 6 cyl. version I have only seen a few GT's, it's like 5 to 1 or something. But they are becoming what they always were, the ever present Mustang that's everywhere. This is one of the reasons why I went with the 8. The new Mustang appears to be a great improvement and I am a fan of the retro design, but once it becomes so commonplace that they are everywhere, what do you have? Cheaper prices for mods I guess.

that is quite alright...I love that you don't see a lot of RX-8 on the road

you don't see a lot of Lambo's either :)

I have only seen one '05 on the road where I live...maybe because they are asking too much - my mother is a mustang fanatic and wants to trade in her '02 for the '05...but the dealer told her $550 a month because they are getting more than invoice for them. That's probably why noone by me has one. Ahh what I could own for $550 a month...

The new 05 Stang is alot better than the old version, no doubt! You know...auto companies are in the business of selling cars and if Mazda could sell the same amount of RX8's they would welcome it with OPEN arms. Furthermore, they might invest in it even more which would be great for all of us.

I understand your point in that the RX8 is rare...that's kinda cool, but I can't share that love of that aspect much cause I love the car either way...if they sold 100 or 1,000,000...I would still love it and would have gotten it either way, but that's just me...

Eh, not in Orange County. I've seen like 4 new Mustangs and like 8 RX-8's in the past 2 weeks or so. I don't think the RX-8 is all that rare. Definitely more rare than the Z or the G35 though. Those are EVERYWHERE here.

There will be more mustangs but not right now. Numbers please. We can't go by observations.

good..keeps us rare

Of course it is location specific. I am in the heart of Mustang/Camaro/Trans Am country. But they are selling like hotcakes so far.

Almost 13,000 of them in November alone. If my memory serves me correct, there were 30,000 RX-8's sold worldwide in the first year.

Ford Motor Company Reports November U.S. Sales

* Mustang stampede is on; total sales up 12 percent, retail sales up 50 percent.

DEARBORN, Mich., Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The Mustang stampede is on. In November, sales of Ford's legendary pony car totaled 12,816, up 12 percent compared with a year ago. That is only part of the story. Retail sales to individual customers were 50 percent higher than a year ago.

"This is a fantastic result," said Jim O'Connor, Ford's group vice president, North American Marketing, Sales and Service. "Normally, we have to wait until spring to see Mustang sales at this level."

Thank you foxman. It will be a few months before they catch up as a whole. RX8's are pretty new and I wouldn't be upset to see RX8's as common as Z's/G35Cs. Mustangs... well like the old body Stang, they'll run rampant.

mysql101 12-08-2004 12:34 PM

I thought mazda sold around 100,000 rx8s worldwide, and about 30,000 in the united states.

At any rate, I've seen about as many 05 mustangs as rx8s around here. The stang looks decent, though the rear end looks very bland. I see more G35's than 350z, s2000, rx8, etc. around here.

ZoomZoomH 12-09-2004 01:18 PM

i haven't seen ONE '05 Mustang on the road yet.... but sees a titanium 8 every day :D

trash259 12-09-2004 03:18 PM

Are you guys serious??? It's lame taking pride in the lack of rx-8 sales compared to the competition.

Why do you see Z's and G35's everywhere? BECAUSE the general public "perceives" these cars to be a better VALUE then the rx-8. You guys can argue this point till your blue in the face, but it doesn't change the fact that they are outselling the rx-8.

Bottom line!!!! More Mustang sale = 1) More aftermarket support 2) More refinements on later models 3) Continuation of the model (think rx-7).

Bad sales = 1) Few/No aftermarket support 2) Death of the model (think new thunderbird).

Just something for you guys to think about before taking soooooooo much pride in not seeing rx-8s on the road.

mysql101 12-09-2004 03:22 PM

trash259, sales of the rx-8 exceeded what mazda expected. We don't want to see the car fail, but few of us want a car that everyone owns. There isn't anything wrong with that.

czr 12-09-2004 03:38 PM

Jason has the point exactly. Also the G and the Z had a 2 year jump which I said I don't mind seeing as many 8's as Gs or Zs but I just don't want mustang numbers.

rabinabo 12-09-2004 03:53 PM

Ok, this is the third time I try to post my reply (tmobile keeps losing the connection).

The renesis is hand-built, so mazda is never going to be able to crank out rx-8's the way ford will crank out new mustangs. AND uniqueness is definitely a reason to buy a car. The RX-8 is the only rotary-powered car in production, which makes immeditely makes it stand out.

Also, most of the aftermarket stuff is junk. You can keep those vulgar body kits and trunk-mounted ironing boards, and just give me a few parts that will improve performance and maintain reliability and I'll be plenty happy.

That won't be a problem too, because by next year there will be plenty of products for the 8. Just wait and see.

shelleys_man_06 12-09-2004 04:35 PM

Don't worry about what Ford is doing. The Mustang, since its inception, was designed to be an economical, mass produced sports car for the masses. In the coming months, these new-old Mustangs will run rampant, mostly V6s, driven by perky teenage girls. IMO, the RX-8 is more of a niche car. Mazda cares whether they are going to move their units, but they're pretty laisse about the RX-8. They know it'll find a happy home.
