My fuel gauge has progressively gotten worse over a year or so. The car started dying at 1/4 tank now it seems to get stuck at 1/2 and dies whenever it feels like it from there. I found a fuel sender but there is a left and a right. Item #13 F151-60-960A (right) and F151-60-970B (left). Does anyone know which one is more likely the problem?

I'm not sure which one would be the issue. I haven't been able to figure out if the gauge cluster averages the two readings, or if it uses one to confirm the value of the other. to a reasonable degree.
Just in-case the senders aren't the issue, go through the procedures outlined in the workshop manual for checking the Fuel Level Signal and the Fuel Gauge Operation Signal. To do this you'll have to go into test mode on your gauge cluster and follow these procedures: |
the PCM reads the LH level sensor individually and also the LH+RH level sensors in series to then determine and send an output signal to the fuel gauge
