$10 million prize for 100 mpg car

Word is that the X-Prize Foundation, which has given awards for civilian space flights, will offer a $10 million prize for production-ready vehicles that get 100 miles per gallon or more. Announcement to come at the New York Auto Show. The winner is the one to produce the most production-ready vehicles.

Let me get right on that.

Revvittupp 03-19-2008 07:53 PM

Either the X Prize foundation is owned by Exxon, or they will hold their own $2omillion dollar contest...

Umm, why not just hypermile the hell out of a hybrid of diesel and see what you get?

NaarLeven 03-19-2008 10:13 PM

Um there is a whole website dedicated to honda insights which get 100mpg or more

It has to be a production car that can be bought stock that gives you 100mpg, this is old news, or possibly someone else into the mix. I remember hearing about this a couple years ago.

Right, the key is producing them in mass quantities. The goal isn't to produce just one. The winner is the one to produce the most production-ready vehicles.

Sweet, the show opens tomorrow at 11am for the public!

Mech_head 03-20-2008 10:03 PM

It can be done.

But no one will buy it. (Or just not enough people)
