Which tires wear out first, the fronts or the rears?

Stupid me didn't mark the OEM tires before they were unmounted for the winter, and now I'm not sure which tires to put where (2 are good, 2 are worn). I'm used to the fronts going first, but that was with FWD cars...

Rears wear MUCH faster, at least for me : ) I also bought tires/wheels from a guy on Ebay who claimed only 3000 miles. Two had 92% tread, two 62%. This was actually pretty close to my originals at 7K.

My rears also wear faster, pick up a tread gauge at an auto parts store they are not expensive and make it easier to watch the tread wear.

It is most certainly the rears, and if you drive like a mad man, it is going to wear out 3x as fast.

Rears are gonna wear more if your spinning them a lot, otherwise the fronts will. That being said, if you just rotate them when you should the wear should be equal!!

(hangs head in shame) Yea, I know, but I'm getting lazy in my old age. I figured they'd only be on for 7,000 miles or so before swapping to winters, so I stretched them out and skipped rotating. The one set is thus much more worn. I hope they make it 'till next winter

Thanks for the responses.... I'm going with the rears getting more punishment then

To finish up the thread, it looks like my FRONTS wore out faster, since the two worn tires are also the ones with badly scuffed edges/sidewalls.

I feel like such a wuss now.

I'll try harder... really I will!
