Are You Using Synthetic or Non-Syn?

Hi All,

As most of us already knew the debate on this issue. What is you decision?

As a matter of fact, I've just hit 1000km & already sent for my 1st service. Using Mobil 1, 5W/50 Fully Synthetic. Recommended by agent & famous mechanic who has done many rotaries.

Cheers
2F2F:confused: Mobil 1

I think you may be the first to hit 1000km here! :D Mine has just turned 800km yesterday.

I know Garage R has brought in HKS rotary oil but I haven't seen them yet, so don't know if these are synthetic or dino, nor the SAE ratings.

How does yours feel with the Mobil 1? But probably no diff at this point in time, right?

UG_8 08-31-2003 10:14 PM

Mine just turn 550 Km...and the fuel tank meter keeps dropping :D

Some Updates!!

After my first oil change to Mobil 1. The car seems lighter when pick up. Also feels smoother...might be normal to all cars after first oil change.

Shall update after more KM...

Fab 8 08-31-2003 11:20 PM

That sounds like quite a bit of driving since picking up the car last week, UG :D

Just checked my motor oil level yesterday, after going through 2 full tanks of petrol, its still at the full mark.

UG_8 09-01-2003 12:37 AM

Yeah....been on the road to rack up the mileage...hope to clear 1000 Km soon and thus can hear the sweet sound at 8500 RPM

Spyder766 09-01-2003 03:27 AM

thought that dino oil are more suitable for rotaries, anyway, will be asking a friend to get for me original mazda rotory oil from agent, do not want to risk anything!!!

there had been a lot of debate on running in mileage of the 8, seems from your posting that u are going to go all the way after 1000km, did u read anywhere that it is ok to do that?? me wan to try 8500rpm as well but do not want to hurt the engine in any way.

UG_8 09-03-2003 12:06 AM

Spyder...I was told to wait until 3000 KM. But guess, I will do it progressively. Probably hit 6-7K at 1500 KM.

But hard to control man...itching to rev it high.....

Spyder766 09-03-2003 12:33 AM

UG_8

know wat u mean, the car feels like my old CRX that needs reving to feel the POWER!!!

i am only at 700km now, hope to do my first servcing this sat!!

Fab 8 09-03-2003 12:45 AM

I'm progressively bringing the revs higher. Right now, I've hit abt 6,500 rpm, but not with WOT. Had to resist the urge to plant the foot to metal, man! :D Love the engine sound!

Spyder766 09-03-2003 01:12 AM

wow, 6500, thats alot man, wat is your km now, i was planning to hit 4000 after i hit 1000km and 5000 after i hit 2000km

u guys are making me change my plans man!!

UG_8 09-03-2003 01:35 AM

Was told that during break-in can rev to 4.5K....

I touching 5K once a while :D

I've done about 850km so far. IMO, we shouldn't baby the car too much as i feel this will result in the engine being tighter and less willing to rev in the long run. Seemed to have worked pretty well on my previous cars. Hope it works for rotaries too!

1000 rpm increase with every 1000 km may be babying it a bit too much! :D Imagine, you gotta wait till 6000km before you can hit redline!

2F2F 09-03-2003 06:50 AM

I'm at about 1400km now. Still rev about 3.5k. But feels like the car is begging more.....especially at 3.5k-3.8k.

Just can't wait to meet all & take a nice photo to post all Sing 8s to East Moon.

Sunday.....hmm..hmmm

Cheers

Fab 8 09-03-2003 09:02 AM

Hmmm looks like I've been pushing mine the hardest! :D

UG_8 09-03-2003 10:58 AM

Fab 8,

Me currently approx 100 KM behind you. Yeah, I agree should not baby it too much...but guess need to take care on the rotaries apex seal...thus also cannot thrash the car too much early on.

Around 5-6K should be ok when nearing 1000 KM. But should not WOT it now....

Fab 8 09-12-2003 11:02 PM

Decided to use this thread for oil as more appropriate! Anyhow, Spyder, $49.90 is pretty cheap for the rotary oil!

I'm thinking of getting someone, like our PI perhaps or through their workshop, to help bring in a few cans. Maybe can do a group buy or something and see if we can get some discounts that way. Are you guys keen?

M-ster 09-24-2003 07:57 AM

Just visited AutoBac, have not been there for a long time, in my memory, I thought there were alot of engine oil available there, especially those imported japanese engine oil. But to no avail. First of all, they have reduce their variety of oils and most oil are of synthetic.

Have not check with my PI about the oil they are gonna use yet, but just in case, they are not going to use 5w-20(or close) Noy-Syn, might be a good idea to do a group buy of the origial Mazda dino oil. Hi Spyder, would you be able to hook that up. But of course we can do all this after a discussion with the Japanese Engineer, thanks to 2F2F's contact.

R8N8SIS 09-24-2003 04:17 PM

$49.99 for the total amt of oil needed for the engine or is it just one can/quart?
