Wish to buy a RX8 ....newbie and learner

hello to all veterans and experts....

i have been lurking around in this forum for awhile.
i am considering or even contemplating to purchase an RX8 in Singapore.

There are so much to learn for this particular ride.

Although i owned many rides before but never a Mazda before. Not to mentioned a rotary.

i wish to buy an Auto 6 sp. AT, reason, my missus will be driving most of the time and she will not be able to handle a 6MT.
Therefore MM is out.
BUt i like the MS bodykit, can i spec it when buying?

there are so many mod and opts for this ride, ECU programming, sport suspensions, brakes...etc....this is where i get a little lost.

Should i start to spec the ride right from the start before importing from JPN or do it after i got the ride?

What are the list of mods i should put onto this ride in terms of 1,2,3, 4 and 5 order?

Which P.I. should i approach which is experienced in this type of package?

I can see alot of forummers here go to MG coupe07 for their service, which P.I. here are affliated to them so that if i engage MG to do the mods, my warranty still stays?

i prefer to do up my ride although my missus drives it but i reckon when i take over the wheels, the SMG (or maybe there is another term for it) will be good for me..

:naughty:

All suggestions are welcome and your thoughts will be the factors for me to own one RX8 soon!!

TIA. :boink:

Better to buy the kit from outside cause can get slightly cheaper. Rough estimate SGD$6k

I dont think any PI is connected to it but have to check with C7 to be sure.

Next thing depends on what is your priority, asthetics or performance. Then from there you plan your route. To help you with the modding process please head over to kinokuniya and purchase both volumes (bible) of rx8 namely book number 96 and 110

I think you will incur additional fees when you install the kit on the car before importing it in. There will be tax payable, but of course your omv will be higher too.

Before doing anything, drive it stock to see what does and doesn't suit you.

Agrees wif bro emperor...driving the car stock wld be the best way to noe
wat she needs...b4 i got my 8,i also have alot of thoughts abt mods for the
car...but after really driving it n trying to explore her limits, then u will
noe wat ur car really needs n wat needs to be tune to ur preference...

Anyway, i think since ur wife will be driving the car most of the time, u
might also need to consider if she can handle the mods u will be doing
to the car?

lmk 08-01-2006 11:04 AM

ok:

1. get the bible from Kino rx8
2. import stock
3. i will start with Asthetics
4. performance after driving it and see what is needed....

question:
1. where to get Mazda speed body kit?

Emperor 08-01-2006 11:45 AM

Buy the "bible" and collect the car first. Maybe you may like other bodykits.

lmk 08-01-2006 08:27 PM

ya, as i have the intention to include the macmini into my ride, i would like to have the touch screen on the original GPS screen ( i will buy a seperate LCD touch screen) position. Does that mean when i spec the car, i need to opt for GPS too. Because i saw some rides here does not have the "pop-up" screen.

sgrenesis 08-01-2006 11:28 PM

yup, but that will slightly increase the price of the car.

point to note: mazda speed is the only body kit that comes already painted. colour matching is the most accurate cause done by mazda themselves and fitting is very good.

Take your time to choose after gettin the bible but must decide within a month or 2 whether you will be doin the ecu remap cause RE will be comin down soon but if speed cut is not a problem to you then can just skip this process. ( FYI: jdm cars have a speed limit of about 180km/h plus)

Hi sir,

I understand your concern, the bros and sis here do make a point cos the original kit from japan is very expensive..the 6k body kit you mention should be mazda speed originate from japan..MG operate on it own as a garage, nevertheless warranty still stay even u go to MG for mod up..warranty covers manufacture fault..so it alright wif us. Whereas for the original GPS system, i'll advise u not to include in the package cos it very expensive and it not applicable in singapore. The language they use will be in japanese...Any mod up or anything should do it in singapore...anything done from japan will be ex...Do let me know if u have furthur queries... U can sms me too.

Regards,

Jimmy

I've went down to kino to try to look for the bible, but couldn't find it. Is it a magazine call hyperrev or sometime like that, vol 96 and 110? If yes, then i could not find it at the magazine section there...

last time i went there , its still available ...i bought 110
fyi, its all pics and jap...if you dun understand , quite a white elephant ....50 buck a piece is quite exp, imo

if you really want to read , might as well make a trip down to Monster Garage. they have all the mag there for your reference, save the money man. .....just my 2 cents

sgrenesis 08-02-2006 01:43 AM

Maybe when you went down they were all sold out. Yes its called hyper rev.

Actually it depends on whether you will take alot of consideration into deciding which kit you would like to install and there are lots of info like price and what items you can mod. You can check with some of members the useful info they got out of the book. Its easier now cause there are the veterans that you can ask for advice.

Anyways you can always drive to monster G to reference the mag more often and save $50+

jimmy,

i cannot make it to go over to your place today, tight down with some matters.

ok, if you think that it is not worth to get the JPN GPS, and i need the retractable screen on the dash, can it be done?
Of course i am not going to use the Jpn GPS system, i am installing my own GPS w carputer.

any comments?

ngkenny 08-02-2006 11:01 AM

this kind of gadget gadget stuff...u better PM sqflyer, lohsk, emperor and airspeed. they should be able to provide you with some leads.

Emperor 08-02-2006 11:40 AM

I thought seriously on this car-puter. But somehow i like my car neat and uncluttered. A car-puter takes up space and i doubt i will use it often.

But i have to admit having one can be quite useful. If you really use it.

lmk 08-02-2006 09:13 PM

i have done it in my previous ride, kind of useful with GPS, itunes dvd player all in one. with the retractable lcd, it will be unclustered. in fact it's neater than a head unit with slding lcd. a macmin is about 19cm sq and it can be stash into anywhere.

seriously, u shldnt install it in japan. It will not be compatible. U r better off buying the parts off the net and installing it locally.

If u need to see how its to be done, pm airspeed. His setup is exactly wat u wan.

lmk 08-03-2006 01:22 AM

thanks bro!
