what rims suit rx8

my 8 is a pearl white should i go for black or gold rims? and im still dunno which is nicer for my 8...

Emperor 03-08-2006 05:37 AM

Black is too contrasting. Gold is not bad but personally i love silver, magnesium or chrome on white.

I have seen 2 very beautiful rims, the ones naughty boy got from veilside and another chrome set i saw on a white 8 who is not a forum member.

I personally think black rims on a white 8 is sexy if you have the chrome lip... mmm

Hi

Ur question is too general or have u oredi decided on the rims design ie multi spoke or less spokes, one piece or 2 piece, std tyre size all round or staggered??

If u have not decided on anything, then question of colour is too premature as besides matching colour of rims to car colour, some rim design looks better in certain colours as well.

If u oredi decided on the rim type and trying to choose colour, then this question is valid or else decide WHICH rims u want first be4 deciding on colours. If u need help, either go for coffee session to look see look see, or post more info so fellow bros here can help eg budget, wat expectation u want (looks, performance, looks and performance) etc etc.

At the moment, ponder over deep blue Volks Racing forged magnesium rims at $2k a piece hehehe

General info: Rims

1. Design: Multiple spokes or less spokes. Multiple spokes means more cleaning. Less spokes design include 5 spokes, 6 spokes, 7 spokes to better show off the brake calipers as well as their variations (eg 5 spokes branching into 10 spokes at the outer rims etc etc)

2. Forged or cast: Forged usually lighter but more susceptible to knocks but not necessarilyt he case. Advan Racing rims are cast (special process), light and good for track use becos they dont flex that easily. Usually, forged rims more expensive but not necessarily all the time (Advan is as expensive as VR or Prodrive)

3. One piece or 2 piece rims: Forged or cast, deep dish will accentuate the look of ur car. 2 piece look better if u run staggered setup (nor necessary true but most of the time it is). 2piece usually heavier.

What size are u going for?? Stock or 'upsize'? After mkt calipers will require u get enough offset to clear the calipers instead of putting on spacers. Diff rim design may require diff offset so all these must be taken into consideration when u decide on new rims.

Popular brand/Branded brands in spore

1. Volks racing (VR)
2. Prodrive
3. Advan Racing
4. Racing hart
5. Enkei
6. 5Zigen
7. Oz etc etc (Jap made)

Search the web for their website.

Happy deciding

that is a very good writeup, bro.

One most impt thing to decide when u want to buy rims, even before u decide wat design and brand u wan.... BUDGET

how much are u willing to spend for rims?

Volk rims can cost from 800 to 1000 per piece, excluding the tyres, depending on designs.

If you do not want to come meetups to look see, then maybe tell us more info regarding bro EBS writeup then maybe we can really help. Colour wise, its really down to personal preference. If u go for gold or bronze look, then whole car will have the racing look. If u opt for chrome rims or chrome lip with black face, then that will be the designer look. However if u opt for racing look, make sure u dress up ur car with bodykit, and an authentic one at that. Some have gone for replica kits and 90% cried after the finished product. My advice is for bodykit go for the real thing. Racing rims without a bodykitted 8 looks rather weird. Sorry guys with that combi, i'm a little blunt here. pls pardon me.

If u opt for designer look rims, yes they are heavier, but hiao factor is up up up, and u dun really need the bodykit to bring out the rims. they are a stunner in their own rights.

Bro EBS, u forgot the ever popular WORK rims. hehehe. They have the designer rims seris right up to the racing look series. and hows ur kit coming along??? I want to see fujita kit!!! bro, urs with fujita GT wing as well?? take note, an Amemiya kit is coming along too, stay tuned for pics!

Grams light, g games, PIAA, BLITZ, wed sports, BBS, buddyclub, Yokohama AVS and many others. they are juz so many choices but it all depends on ur budget.

ok ok, i am one of these with bodykit on stock rims. Still looking and in the process of shredding the stock tires first.

Criteria: extremely lightweight, easy to clean, fewer than 5 spokes with simple designs, less than 18".

I got a replica kit, 75% satisfied (important to get good paintwork, someone told me horror stories about paintwork and i said: heng") But if you really have cash to spare, should consider original. For me, i prefer to spend on fuctional items like gauges or rims and money saved on the replica did go to some where useful. And less heartache when it gets damaged and when you want to change to a new kit.

Ivan san: Me have yet to see you workshop.... arrange leh.

Racinghart

Just place my new rim with Yap "Racinghart C4R", hope this time round the special nut will be useful for been stolen again. Anyone got good alarm system to recommend :ylsuper:

K.Tan 03-12-2006 02:55 AM

i dunno err my budget is around 2-3k

EBS 03-13-2006 05:40 AM

Hi

2 -3 K is abt right for branded rims but no staggered setups as u will incur more $$$ buying tyres!!

So for that budget, u get to keep the original tyres so u can only get rims that the original tyres will hug nicely, no big width rims or big size tyres.

Zoom in on rims from Volks racing and Prodrive (popular brand), Works, Racing Hart to get a feel of wat u like or dislike be4 u decide colours etc etc.

Cheers

K.Tan 03-13-2006 09:58 AM
